Ok does any one know what voltages goes to the 8 pin on the vid card?
is it just 12 and grounds if so would this be ok?

the card I would like to know this info for is a nvidia 9800 GX2

That adapter will definitely NOT work with a video card. If you can get it to plug in (which it shouldn't), it will fry your GX2.
There are adapters that convert one or two 6-pin PCI-E power connectors into an 8-pin, and that's your only option if your PSU doesn't have an 8-pin connector.
BTW, what PSU do you have?

This was a question for my father-in-law im not sure what PSU he has tho I do know he changed it out for one that had the 8pin vid card connector Thanks tho

Do note some have 6+2 (like corsair). In anycase, look out for the sign on the connector. It should say PCI-E for the GPU, while ATX for the 8pin motherboard one.
