View Full Version : storm on e8500 / fuzion on hd4850
my new setup (which is friggin sweet on air right now) is in my sig. I have my old swiftech storm that is going on the e8500 and a fuzion i picked up for the hd4850. all this going into a lian li v350 case, its going to be a tight fit. pump is mcp355 and magicool slim 240 rad. setup very similar to this http://www.million-dollar-pc.com/systems-2008/lian-li/tremeloes/lian-li-pc-v350b.htm
minus the case hackering (well maybe a little)
my question is will the swiftech storm perform well enough to keep that proc cool or should i pick up something like a EK or Fuzion V2?

The rig in the link is so freakin' nice...wow. The Storm would probably be fine to cool it without major overclocking. A Fuzion v2 would lower your temps a couple degrees. It's really up to you whether it's worth $70 or however much a Fuzion costs for the extra boost.
yeah i pretty much got all my inspiration from the guy that did that. doing black tygon tube with clear coils as well because i loved that look. not going to use compression fittings though as long as they are $7 a pop.
i will stay with the storm and see how it goes. lapping it as we speak and will probly lap the e8500 if its not totally flat to try and save a couple degrees.
ill be sure to post some pictures of my progress.

The 45nm wolfdales should run pretty quick without a lot of juice. Temps aren't a major concern. If your e8500 is decent, you can hit 4Ghz at less than 1.4volts (ignore my wolfdale, it sucks).
The waterblock shouldn't need lapping. It should be flat already. The Intel is what will need the lapping. Make sure you extensively test it before you lap it though.
yeah i just practiced lapping my a64, its pretty now! the storm just needed it because of a couple scratches. With how the hd4850 is running now (HOT!) im more worried about cooling it.
