Glad its on its way to the PC, will prolly look 10x better than it did on the consoles. And I hope it has 360 controller support

i don't know why there was ever any doubt it wouldn't hit the PC :) sure it will look better, controller support would be nice.

hehe, this makes me think back to this thread: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=557353
Rockstar's tone sure changed. It went from:
As for GTA IV coming out on the PC, that’s very doubtful as we currently have no plans to develop for the PC. We could only focus our efforts extensively on so many consoles at once, and PC might not see the light of day.
to
We are very excited to be releasing the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV. The whole team is dedicated to bringing an amazing gaming experience to the PC. The game looks and plays beautifully on PC and we can't wait for people to play it.
As several people in the old thread predicted, it was just marketing.

What I want to see if online play mixed with 360 and PS3 players, in addition to 360 gamepad support. :) If they'd do that I would buy it for the PC even though I already have it for the PS3.
I understand why they don't allow mixing of PC and console players in games like COD4 or TF2 since keyboard and mouse gives a speed and control advantage over the gamepad but if the game can detect that you are using the 360 gamepad then it should let you play against players on XB Live. I don't see myself ever buying a 360 console so this will probably remain a pipe dream for this generation of console/pc games.

Hey great, now I can play a game on my PC that I've been playing on my 360 for months! It's a port of a console game... it'll look the same on PC as it does on HDMI, which is only 9x better than it looked on the consoles. :p
Is it just me or has Rockstar always kind of been wishy washy on other versions of their games. First it was "Xbox will never see GTA". You also got the "Yea we're not going to release this one for PC either".
Big surprise
Glad it's coming this year.

I knew I'd end up buying this game twice, same as San Andreas. Once to play a bit and muck around with, again to really enjoy with real graphics and instant load times. Guess which version is which :)

instant load is the console version ? :D

now that would be awesome. i would imagine that there are too many legal barriers (more than any technical barriers) for it to be possible.
i just can't imagine sony and/or microsoft letting rockstar build a multiplayer interface to work with the 360 or ps3...
at the same time, i am sure there will be plenty of people playing online with the pc. you can definitely count me in as the gta series is one of the only games i still play.

Finally the decent version. I'm sorry but this game pretty much looks like crap on consoles because they just don't have the processing power. I'm looking forward to better textures, better AA and AF, and some damn nice framerates.
I was one of those people in the other thread stating it was just marketing. See, nothing to worry about, fellows. Just had to wait a little while for the superior version to be released. :)
After playing through the console version... I'm not interested.
Rockstar stabbed their primary(and only big IP) franchise in the heart with GTA4, it was to be the best, but it's the worst so far IMO.

Probably too serious and not enough fun. That's the main criticism of GTA IV, and I'd have to agree, which is why I'm looking forward to Saint's Row 2 with online Co-op and mayhem.

Right... Rockstar ruined everything by releasing their best selling and most critically acclaimed game, ever. Can't say I agree. I think it's a fantastic game, but to each his/her own, I suppose. ;)

i would actually like to hear why you didn't like it. i have yet to play it and would just like an opinion of someone who has and doesn't like it. i hear plenty from those who like it and not enough from the opposite :)

Hopefully it would be better graphics than playing on my 360, every turn i made the building will start to fade and it looked like i was driving on air.

Any word on minimum requirements?
I think the multiplayer support is gonna be awesome... wonder if it'll be free to play online.
What made it so bad in your opinion?
It's not a bad game, it's just not as good as it could of been.
It's not very refined, graphics are dirty, controls are cumbersome in combat, lack of world persistence, load times could of been improved, the only thing that's bad is the fact that I find too much of the missions to be left to chance and sometimes I simply don't know what to do until a fail the first time(and once I know what to do they're trivial).
I pick up a bag of cocane, and there's 30 swat members after me, I can't hold p because it'll never stop until I'm dead, but there's 3 ways out, and 2 of them guarantee my death if I'm not loaded with max amour, health, and weaponry.
... wonder if it'll be free to play online.
I hope so, I wouldn't want to pay to play join multiplayer games just because someone on xbox360 or ps3 is paying. PC multiplayer has always been free in the past or at least for a long time though microsoft is making a trend out of getting pc player to buy xbox live accounts simply to play.
worse case if a company doesnt want to host servers then they should at least give the option to players, to make a dedicated server which you can connect to with a direct ip address so that freinds and online communities stick together
WE NEED MORE CO-OP!
With that said I am very interested as I have heard good things about this GTA and so far have not yet played it on xbox360 or PS3. But it might have to wait till I finish fallout 3 and might have to wait even longer if I get my hands on spores or WO

If its not a buggy console port and the multiplayer is fun...I might think about it.

Better late than never, yay PC gaming
The hype is almost over and I think I wont be buying this game
Well Games for Windows live is free now so I don't think we'll have to worry about paying to play this game online.

Glad though.. PC is the only way to jack a car :)

I'd have to agree. I know the devs wanted to depart from 'just giving the players more' and make things seem more real. But in doing so they left out something many veterans of the franchise had come to love and expect. I also agree with Shell regarding missions. They seemed too scripted and hollow feeling to me.
That said, everyone who was a fan of gta needs to play it at least once. I will most likely pick it up again for the pc; the mods made GTA:SA last a long time.

i need to get one of those disc doctors or something. my gta:sa dvd is scratched and it doesn't install correctly :( sa is definitely one of my favorites.
i just wish i had more time to play gta4 but it is definitely different than sa and even vice city. some good, some not so good.

GTA:SA had a true 'Sandbox' feel to it.

One of the big things I don't like about 4. No big outside open areas. Maybe that changes, I've only just gotten a few missions off the first island. Another annoyance: At this point in the game, since I just got through the toll booth, all the missions seem to be 'drive across that bridge again and then come back' type of nonsense.
I still play SA more on PC than I do 4 on PS3 :p

Yeah, you end up doing a lot of bridgework, just accept it. As far as large open areas, I miss those. FYI I've finished the storyline and all I've been doing recently is rampaging.

Go nuts
Well since Liberty City is supposed to be similar to New York City I can understand why there would be no big open areas. I think the only large open area in nyc is Central Park. But I liked the structured and serious storyline. I never played Vice City or San Andreas, but all gta3 was really was go here and kill this guy then go and kill this other guy. There's a lot more thinking going on in gta4.

i think the graphics seem to be a bit jagged on the ps3 compared to what i thought they should be.

Just realized I can do A/B testing on my 1080p TV :) PS3 uses HDMI, PC uses VGA cable, can load em both up and hit a button on the remote to switch.. Should be funny to see how crummy the PS3 version looks :attn:

if you could use a dvi cable, that would probably be more accurate in terms of comparison. but i am sure the pc version will look better, without a doubt.
