Sorry for the rather n00b questions but im just interested to know...

ive got one 500gb 7200rpm SATA2 hdd, im just wondering if its worth buying another one (for $70) in order to set it up in RAID 0? I intend on doing some higher end gaming so i was just interested in weather or not this investment would be worth it.

Also, if i do go ahead with it, should i buy the exact same hdd? or would a different make hdd with the same specs work fine?

Thanks in advance!

if you have data on the current drive, creating the array will wipe anything off the current drive

aside from that, i dont know that you would notice that much of a difference to warrant the cost

You probably won't gain much if any from a RAID0 setup, except you'll have a nice big 1Tb drive.
It would probably be better to setup a RAID 1, when tends to increase speed reading (no writing) although you I'd need to do a little research to make sure I'm right in this.

Install/load times will decrease significantly (take less time) using RAID 0, but normal use will virtually remain the same. I personally notice the overall speed increase from using a single Raptor versus two Raptors in RAID 0.
I'll never run anything less.

Quick69GTO, how are your HDDs setup?
PATA/SATA? if PATA, are they on the same IDE controller or separate ones?

raptors only come in SATA
