When you guys buy video cards do you guys go by manufacture?
I know that some company's cards overclock better than others. Which companies do you think are good for overclock and overall?
Here's some I think are one of the best around:
Leadtek
Visiontek
Asus
Gainward
Gigabyte
Hercules
I think that PNY kinda sucks (no offense to people to have it). I read it doesn't overclock as well as the other companies. :)
1. Welcome to the forums!
2. This question should really belong in the video cards section of the forum.
3. Manufacturer does matter to a certain extent. Each card has different features and things added. Personally, I love my gainward video card. It tends to get some very good reviews too. Other people here could tell you their opinion on other cards out there.

depends on the chipset you want (geforce3 vs. ATI radeon)
i don't know much about either of them but i do know that some of the DO overclock better than others. someone else should be able to help you more.

I personally am not loyal to one company. I pick which one is the best overall and stick with it. Right now I have a Visiontek GeForce 3.

personally, i like ELSA and ATI video cards i have had alot of luck with them, i also do not over clock my video cards, not much of a point with a 64 meg card, right???
unless you are hardcore gamer, then i would say go with something small, i have a 600 Athalon system,256MB ram, 48x, 17.8gb hdd, that works fine with a 16 meg ATI rage 128 AGP card, i think it all depends on what you are going to be doing with yer box

I have a radeon 64mb DDR SE...
by overclocking the card alone It add's 400-500 or more points to my 3dmark score...and that's on stock cooling with no ram sinks
and it makes playin maxpayne @ 1600x1200x32 at full detail a reality..
I think it's more of a question of who does better QA. I mean any company can throw out a product. The good ones test and test and then test again. And if you do have a prob there easy to get ahold of and easy to exchange.

I usually check a lot of reviews and see how manufacturer cards stack up against the reference design. You need to take clock speeds and memory access times into account but that usually offers a good overall comparision.
A biggie between card types seem to be memory access times. You find Ti cards and Radeon cards of the same model type with 3.8-4.0 ddr memory chips. Another smaller consideration is the stock cooling used by the manufacturer. IMHO Hercules seems to be in the lead there...albeit for a price. :D
