I don't evvvvvvvvvven care.

I'm not waiting to see any reviews... I don't care if any of my friends join... I have to make a lot of money REAL fast because they finally found an MMORPG to get me.

I know I've gone on and on and on and on and on AND ON about how much I hate Sci-Fi...

...but this is Star Trek. Not JUST star trek... but a Star Trek RPG. Start at Ensign and work your way up to Captain (a whole HELL of a lot more impressive than a "Level 70" or whatever the hell they do in WoW.)

I'm in. If they were selling it right now... I'd be buying it... RIGHT NOW.

That's what I'M saying!

I SWORE this day would never come! I've got a copy of City of Villains that I've been using to hold up a case fan. I thought they'd NEVER get me...

Rainless? You are a Trekie? That's soooo freakin awesome!

I mainly just like the first series. I was a Next Generation head for a while... but when you haven't seen the original series in a while, and you watch it one day... it's pretty damned AWESOME.

Say what you will about William Shatner: His Captain Kirk was AWESOME.

"Do you mean that you intend to KILL IT Captain?"

"I... intend to protect my men, Spock. And anything... that gets in the way... I intend to move... out of the way."

And Bones was just plain awesome. A southern baptist doctor in the future. Brilliant. They've never come up with anything better than Bones McCoy.

I think you better put down extra large bowls of food and water for that cat... I have a feeling you are going to be glued to the monitor for a while.

Just a hunch. :santa:

I did just look at a trailer for it and I have to be honest, I was not very impressed with what I saw. (Which was 100% in game footage).

Why is it every Star Trek game I have seen has the character movements look so unnatural, the spaceships look too sharp and angled with their movements looking clunky and not fluid at all? Plus the lighting and contrast is far too bright for space and the character faces look like cartoons? Is it just me or do they look pretty much unchanged from the DS9 the Fallen, and Star Trek Voyager games?

I had to go to Startrek Online's website and download the video, cause it wouldn't load from kotaku.

Looks VERY interesting. Space battles + character battles! ( hell, Eve-online has yet to even implement a person walking around in a station! )

I don't care if this is how the End product will look. Looks fun! Hopefully, the game will get more polished by the time its done. The space battles, and textures looked great ( along with the planets ), but inside the ships...the walls, and floor were pretty bland. Not a big deal.

Can't wait to hear more info on this in the future.

I think that's a tough call to make if you watch TNG and TOS back to back.

There's just something so positively BADASS about Kirk as the Captain. Very little in the way of diplomacy. :)

And you really only ever had one hot chick in TNG at a time... Kirk didn't have TIME for diplomacy. He had to go from galaxy to galaxy looking for hot chicks.

All Picard ever had was an aging doctor, replica vintage wines, and memories.

That's too tough a call to make. Levar Burton might have been a better engineer than Scotty... but he wasn't NEARLY as funny. Riker was just a tub of lard near the end. Data was cool... but you just never had the same chemistry as the original series. That was just a cooky mix that worked.

stang8118
08-14-08, 12:42 AM
I dunno Councilor (sp?) Troy was pretty freakin hot.

I liked Picard as captain, just because seeing Shatner in those horrible commercials he does now just ruins any good thing he had going for him as Kirk lmao. Plus the original series was a few years before my time, and TNG came out roughly when I became a teenager (27 now)... so I kinda grew up with it. The movie they came out with a few years after the show ended (can't remember the name for the life of me) was probably the best Star Trek movie I've ever seen... plus the final episode of TNG was by far the greatest episode with Q in it.

zexmarquies01

plus the final episode of TNG was by far the greatest episode with Q in it.

Agreed! Q was and IS the sh*t! They should have had more episodes with him in it dammit! Though, he did appear in 3 episodes of Voyager, and in 1 episode in Deep Space Nine.

Also was great, because Q was in the 1st episode as well. And he's the sole reason why the Borg found the federation.

Loved in the last episode, when Picard asks Q something along the lines of "Just who are guy guys?" and Q acts like he's going to respond...then stops and wags his finger from side to side! :D

I'm 24, so I also grew up with TNG as well. So it's my personal favorite of them all. I grew up with my dad watching it all the time. So it stuck. Even though i didn't understand a damn thing at the time. It still stuck.

You might find it hard to watch TNG now though. I watched the whole series from episode 1 myself (think I might have missed the last episode, the last season was sort of a turnoff for me).

But William Shatner was, and is, the slickest man in the entertainment industry. Here's a man with NO acting talent. ZERO. NONNNNNNNNNE! But he made himself an icon and he's still got steady work today. He's everywhere! He's doing local commercials here in Chicago! He's got car insurance commercials... then he's got commercials for various lawyers, restaurants... He's omnipresent!

Picard (nobody even knows his real name :) ) could act... But lots of people can act. Not many people could do what Shatner did and be successful at it.

In every scene he's got this cocky smirk... He KNOWS he can't act! But he's doing it anyway. He's getting away with it... STILL! He's got women falling over him left and right! His wife died under mysterious circumstances and nobody even asked him any questions! And his filllllllllthy rich!

There's never been another actor like him and no other Starfleet captain will ever be able to touch him.

I tell you, take the challenge: Watch an episode of TOS and an episode of TNG back to back.

Patrick Stewart.

Who I remember watching in "I, Claudius" on BBC back in '76 and was shown here on PBS. Also "Hamlet, Prince of Denmark" in '80 we watched in High School and a small part in John Boorman's "Excalibur" in '81 as Leondegrance. "Dune" in '84, "Lifeforce" in '85, and many other TV parts. Then after Star Trek the shows and films came "Conspiracy Theory" in '97, A Christmas Carol in '99 all the X-Men films, the remake of "The Lion in Winter" in 2003, dozens of voice parts, and his one man rendition of a Christmas Carol on stage but I forget how long that ran for... but he did it for over 20 years+ I think. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. ;)

Her real name is Denise Crosby. Who is pushing 51 I think. There's a scary thought.

Lets see... Started working on "Days of Our Lives" back in the 60's I think. I remember her in Blake Edward's "Skin Deep" in the late 80's... '88 or '89 maybe? I know it was after "Die Hard" in '88. :D She's been in tons of TV shows. And a very very small part in the original movie "48Hrs" back in '82. She played Gage's mom is Stephen King's (horrible) movie "Pet Cemetery". Had a bit part in Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" if I recall... and believe it or not, I JUST saw her in a cameo of the last episode of "Mad Men" on my DVR last night. :D

Star Trek Online VIP Q&A with Craig Zinkievich
http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/75826

Craig: At launch it’s going to be one shard, one universe. Bruce Rogers, our CTO, has done a fantastic job of architecting a system that allows us to have that one shard, one universe, and it just makes for a much easier world to manage and easier for people who don’t understand the whole process of figuring out which server your friends are playing on. It’s better for that not to matter.

Any silly pre-order item like "multi-spacial shields" and stuff like that is usually worthless after level 10 in most of these types of games so I doubt it matters much. The extra skill points seems like the most usefull deal.

I'll be heading to GameStop tomorrow to reserve the game. Still debating if I want the collectors edition or not. But I'm not sure if the extra's are worth the extra $30.

I really want to play this game, this will be my first MMO since Nexon's Dark Ages almost ten years ago. The monthly fee doesn't appeal to me, but I'm sure I'll play it for at least a couple of months. I've been debating with myself where to pre-order from and I'm leaning towards Amazon as well for the Borg bridge officer. STO looks fun from the gameplay and screenshots I've seen, I'd love to play with some fellow OCFers. :salute:

As said a bunch of times, Space MMO's are hard to pull off correctly. Eve did ok, except the vertical learning curve. It looks like an Ok game, but there is only one MMO I want, if they have a trial for this, I'll give it a shot. No mmo has caught me in since I quit wow, which sucks because there's been some decent looking MMO's that weren't on a monthly fee that I would have liked to have tried.

For some reason I keep thinking they are going to do something with the Tribble, like some kind of moral bonus to the crew or something. It seems to be the only "fun" item.

It will be an instant target for any Klingon that boards a Federation ship with one.

Space MMO's are really hard to pull off, hopefully it doesn't suck because that would just be an insult to the entire startrek genre.

I'll buy this game if you can board and steal someone's star ship...otherwise I consider it basically Eve online but maybe less complicated for people. Oh and Eve Online offers free expansions *wink wink* not that I'm trying to get others to play.

Anyone know if there are any sites where we can download the beta now, so we don't have to do it tomorrow? I preordered mine from Gamestop, and got the beta card. But it doesn't look like the official site has it up to download yet, and I really don't want to be stuck trying to download the beta, along with thousands of other people.

So, I'm not sure about you guys, but I am very unimpressed with the open beta.

While I have always LOVED Star Trek, I don't find that this game has that "fun-factor" that MMORPG's need to keep you hooked for long periods of time.

Everything seems very average and mildly entertaining.

I don't know...I'll keep giving it a try but at this point, I am quite happy I didn't spend money on a pre-order.

The character creator is awesome. I created a half-Andorian/half-Vulcan as my character. Too bad "nerve pinch" and "mind meld" are only selectable for Vulcan characters. The Saurians look really good.

I like the game so far, the ground combat was borderline terrible on my laptop, really choppy for movements, but everything was smooth on my desktop with an occasional hiccup. It would be great if I had the option to use the mouse for viewing around while in ground mode, like how shooters handle the mouse, maybe there is an option? Also, does anyone know if there is a way to swing the camera around to where I'm viewing the rear of my ship?

Anyone who signs up for lifetime before feb is an idiot. Even if the game turns out alright, it's not that great right now. So if you want a lifetime, it would be worth it to wait 3-4 months to see if it will even be successful (remember Age of Conan?) and then purchase it for the even gougier price of 299.

Quote from Com Rep ( StormShade)
Hi everyone!

This is really amazing! We have hit the limit of how many players we can fit on the server right now!

This is one of those times where we're both sad, and glad. On the one side, you all enjoy the game so much, we can't squeeze anyone else on to the server. (I can't log in right now either! )

On the other side, we really want to let you all on the server! So, here's what we're working on:

1) We're increasing server capacity. We have new machines coming in to add to the server, and we've put a rush order on them. We're going to bring them online as soon as we can.

2) We're working on software solutions as well. Our development team is working night and day to be able to get as much power as we can from each machine, and we're focusing on increasing capacity, and server stability.

For now, all we can say is, please keep trying. We know it's frustrating. Please keep trying though. You never know when you might be able to get in!

Thank you for your patience, thank you for your support, and thank you for your interest in Star Trek Online!

Could you describe what do you mean by meh? If ME ground combat were a 10, what would you rate STO ground combat as?

STO ground combat , at 4 imho. I still get lag where I shoot and it takes awhile for it to happen even though the cooldown for shooting has started. There is still rubber banding , maybe due to too many people playing?
On land, most of the time its just beam down, shoot stuff, and scan this or that , maybe turn off a leak here or there.

Some missions other players join in, that imho is where the fun stops, as they like to run ahead and die and or complete objectives without you even coming along. I completed around 15 ground missions so far, 2 of which beamed me into a group that had a few of the tasks done already, sorta killing the moment for me , as I didn't know exactly what to do, and then all of a sudden it pops up mission complete. And I was like WTF, I just stood here, lol.

I wish there was an option to beam down without other players joining in, maybe I haven't found it yet.

ALSO , when in space , and joining a combat instance , I HATE that I warp into it and there are 10-15 ships all in one spot, we bump into each other for 15 seconds as I try to make my way out of the pile.

Top that off half the ships just sit there and collect XP without even firing a shot. The issue with that being the game scales the instances going by player ranks in the instance, and number of players in the instance, sometimes its 9-10 of us fighting a force that was ment for 20 players to fight against.

patch out, fixes stuff, unlocks rank cap , gonna give it a try tonight.

be careful with the new patch.

If you remove an attack ( say the photon torpedo's ) from your hotbar, it will un-equip the photon torpedo's from your ship, and move it to your inventory. A lot of people like removing the torpedo's and phasers from the hotbar, so they can put skills in the hotbar instead.

the only way around this is to expand the hotbar, un-equip the weapon, take the attack off the hotbar, equip the weapon back on, then move the attack button to either the 2nd or 3rd row, so the attack isn't on the 1st row.

or at least, it's something along those lines. It's a PITA, and needs to be changed. there is NO good reason to un-equip a weapon when the attack button is removed from the hotbar.

Also, there IS a skill level cap in the game ( aka: level cap ). Originally the game was touted as having no cap, but they suddenly decided to have a cap so they can slowly raise that cap and not let people get too strong for when expansions come out. People were originally expecting the game to be like Eve, where there is no skill level cap. You just keep gaining skills points, and keep learning skills.

My opinion is that they rushed the game too much, and didn't have enough time to implement as many skills as they originally wanted. Because they don't have enough skills, they realized that people would max all those skills out too early, and when an expansion comes out, they'd have enough skill points saved up to nearly max those new skills out instantly. If they had more skills implemented when the game goes live, they they probably wouldn't have implemented the skill cap. The website originally had it listed that there was no skill level / skill point cap. And when this information came out, the official boards exploded. A LOT of people are angry.

I'm enjoying the game, but you can easily notice the spots that were rushed due to time restraints. Not enough equipment ( people get stuck using the same weapons on their ship for nearly 10 levels, because they have to wait for an enemy to drop it ), and not enough skills.

I'll probably end up getting the game, and give it a good try for a month or two. But they had better get some content updates pretty quick, or I can see people quitting in droves within the first 3 months.

Patch is a MAJOR improvement, you can actually navigate the sector maps, as the names of planets / places now show up. Most missions have been fixed, space combat seems a bit too easy still.

I will keep playing the open beta till the end. :sn:

:rain: What is sad is that with this new patch, the game is at the stage where it should have been back on the 12th when the Open Beta was released to the public. :eh?:

I am still getting ground lag (nothing better than your character warping ahead 10 feet into a wall), loading screens/times have improved.

Like I said before I am gonna wait 2-3 months and see whats improved. Maybe by then they give a free weekend or trial. What really ticks me off , is the limit of 2 characters (3 total after level 5). After that I would have to pay cash for more open character slots. This wouldn't have been an issue , but they decided to skill point cap all characters at level 45. So you cannot train 1 character in all skills now, as you do not have enough points to invest. So you are "almost forced" to buy slots to train characters with different skill focuses. I know I would not want to delete a level 45 admiral who has a super awesome ship and crew , to create a new character in his place.

DBZ

Yup. What they are doing is BS. If they are going to implement a skill cap, then they had BETTER give us MUCH MUCH more than 2 character slots. Or instead, they should leave the game un-capped, and get some new skills made, and include them in PATCHES, and content updates, and do that within 3 months or less.

As I said before, the game was RUSHED. Had they waiting an extra month or two, they could have gotten out more stuff. If anything causes this game to fail, it will be due to lack of content, due to the game being rushed.

The only reason I'm REALLY tempted to get it on launch day, Is because there's nothing else out for me to play. Yeah, there's Mass Effect 2, And I *WILL* be getting that. But That won't take me too long to finish really. And It's only one game.

Mainly, I want a time killer until StarCraft 2 and Star Wars: The old Republic comes out. Singler player games can fill in dead spots in-between. ( Final Fantasy 13, God of War 3 etc.. )

deathman20
01-22-10, 12:34 PM
While I haven't had a chacne to try it, know it was rushed is well known. From switching hands so many times, creating, and re-creating assets they definatly could of used a little more time to get things under wraps. To bad they won't get that chance before the game is released.

Oh and that is a huge disappointment on the skill cap. I was looking forward to another game that doesnt have skill caps but guess thats just a long shot with many games out there.

It's still too buggy IMO to spring for a lifetime or yearly membership right now. I understand its in beta, but I mean c'mon, the beta is supposed to over in a few days, I don't think its going to be magically stable come Feb 2nd. Last night I tried to log in for the first time in three days and the server was down for several hours. When it was finally up it warped me into the middle of the Starbase 24 battle surrounded by a couple dozen Klingon ships and no Fed assistance, so I died. When I respawned it put me further away from the battle and a good number of allied ships to help, but when I beamed to the starbase to evacuate the scientists it was laggy and kicked me out of the game to a crash report within ten minutes of playing that mission. Maybe just that mission is buggy because that's where it crashed out on me when I last played Monday night. So I gave up and played some Forza 3 on the xbox after that, and had a great time.

Still, I like ST:O and I think it is fun but the game is still too much of a mess right now.

Space combat sounds fun.

well , beta is over, it was alright, i enjoy space combat enough to get the game from amazon , i just won't register or play it until the first month is over, and they patch it up nice and good.

so in all , i pre-ordered, canceled, then ordered again, lol.

Good to see you're sticking with it. Although I said I wouldn't at first, I'm leaning towards getting a lifetime sub. I've been enjoying the game, and it's running reasonably well on my laptop, it will give me something to do on my long lunch breaks, and I'm the kind of hardcore Trekker that's finding this game too hard to pass up, going to the memory alpha planetoid and flying around the Wolf 359 graveyard was just too cool.

Ship names are whatever you want, so yes.

By unique I meant, are they going to allow for EXACT duplicates of names, not whether you can PICK a unique name for the ship. Sorry if I was not clear.

Ex. Have more than one ship named USS Liability.

Hardin
01-29-10, 09:36 AM
No ship names are not unique. Neither are character names.

sHape oF gReY
01-29-10, 09:51 AM
Well that kinda sucks. Having duplicate ship names, especially when there is only 1 server is slightly "fail". But I guess I could see why they did this.

Hardin
01-29-10, 10:36 AM
I have the complete opposite view. This way people can have the name that they want without worrying about it being taken. In the open beta I had a ship named Thor and I did end up teaming up with someone else who had that ship name, but it only happened once.

I logged in and my character has been deleted. That sucks. Furthermore I still don't see a way to choose to create a Klingon player, I only have "New Federation Character" as an option. No notice they were going to be deleting characters, at least not that I saw, and on top of that I still haven't received any response from Cryptic to my questions from last weekend. My opinion of this whole thing has just swung the opposite direction...good thing I held off buying a sub.

after you get a starfleet character to level 5, the 3rd slot opens up to create a klingon.

TBQH this is the best MMO launch I've been part of. Downtime has been pretty limited, no rollbacks. They had issues with the login server the first couple of hours, because everyone logged in at once. We not only overloaded the STO login server, but knocked out the Champions server as well.

Yesterdays downtime sucked, but so far during Headstart I've gotten one character to lvl 5, when the playable Borg were broken. Then Rolled my Borg, and am about to make Lt Cmdr.

Also, for those who have ground combat issues with lag, lower the shadow levels in the video options, that seems to be the main culprit. along with AA. Alot of the edges are supposed to be sharp, and AA doesn't like that.

The server load is immense, all of us Star Trek geeks rushing the gates for Headstart. Uptime has actually been pretty good, got one character to lvl 5, my main hit LT Cmdr yesterday. Others in my fleet are already Commander.

IMO the server load right now is likely the worst it will ever be, we're talking about the Headstart weekend, EVERYONE with access is trying to log in at once, just to "beat the rush"

It's like the OLD black friday door-buster sales. There's a horde beating down the door. And some poor Shmuck has to be the one that opens it.

02-02-10, 11:19 PM
Can I be in more than 1? If so , sure :D

I joined the "Impulse Driven" fleet, that is run by some of my friends who work at Stardock.

My one friend just made captain, he says once you get to commander it becomes way more fun, as you have more options in space and on ground depending on your Bridge Officer combination's. I can agree , even when I hit LT Commander in OpenBeta the game became a lot more fun, as my ship could make a difference in space being either a TANK or one that could take out shields/weapons etc.

I also went Lifetime on 2/1/10 (talk about waiting till the last second), I'm figuring I'll play this for 2 years without question, if only for the space pew pew. Fleet actions are quite fun.

I am surprised I went with a lifetime , during the open beta I had such lag and constant disconnects. I even canceled my pre-order at one point. But I kept coming back, because at its Core it is TREK. Trek in a time of war, which I think makes for some great stories, and space battles which were rare during the TV series.

The Undine ( species 8472 ) and the Q are probably my 2 favorite species in the Star Trek Universe. ( With Q being my #1 favorite ).

I have never understood this mentality.

It boils down to 50 cents a day. That's 2.08 cents an hour. ( since most MMO's bill you per 30 days. They don't follow the months. )

A candy bar costs 50 cents ( or more ), and lasts what? a minute?

A bottle of pop costs $1.25, and last an hour at most? ( some people, it lasts about 5 minutes )

A movie ticket costs between $7 and $12, and lasts 2 hours on average.

Most $50 and $60 offline games last 20'ish hours. 40 - 50 if it's an RPG. That comes down to $2 and $1 an HOUR.

Hell, having broadband internet is 4 times more expensive on average. Depending on your provider, Cable TV is 2 times as expensive.

I don't know of anything else that comes down to 50 cents a day, that lasts ALL DAY. Hell, I don't know of anything else that comes even close to it. The closest thing is Cable TV. and hell, between 2 and 6am, it's nearly all infomercials. If your lucky, re-runs of shows that aired earlier the night before.

You're free to do with your money as you see fit. And I have no right to tell you otherwise. But it doesn't mean that I'm going to understand people with your viewpoint, considering that I can't think of any other form of entertainment that comes close to the price vs value that you get from an MMO.

Unless you buy a Movie for $15, and watch it over and over and over, again and again. But you'd have to watch it 12+ times for it to be as cost effective. And outside of a couple REALLY good movies that I love, Not many movies are worth watching 12+ times.

Just hit CM4 on Joined Trill escort...missions are actually starting to show a degree of difficulty rather than a 30 min "pew pew" spam-fest.

Unfortunately there are still quite a few bugged missions, plus some minor things that are missing that would GREATLY increase my enjoyment, such as showing quest rewards in the quest log and lack of clear tool-tips. Also a filter on the merchants would be great as well, for example on the BO power store, so that you don't have to sift through 100+ abilities for every type of BO.

All around, the game was obviously rushed, but it's not a total disaster if they keep up with the patches.

PS. WTB re-spec ability.

I read they were increasing their server capacity this past weekend, perhaps that had something to do with it. I noticed it was mostly alright yesterday evening after the Super Bowl, it booted me out a couple of times but I was able to get back in with no queue.

It's too bad Cryptic isn't offering something like a 10-hour trial through their website. A coworker and a friend both want to try this game but neither wants to drop $50 on buying the game just to try it out, I'm sure a lot of people feel that way. As far as I can tell the only trial passes available are with the $80 Collector's Edition, that's a bit lame.

lordkosc

Graphics are fine imho. Its made to look a bit cartoony and that will keep it from looking old for awhile. (2-3 years down the road).

I've been enjoying myself immensely, I am almost Commander rank (3 pips) on my main character. I am in a fleet run by some of my friends at Stardock (around 24 of us so far). I have 4 ships , my starting ship and 1 of every teir 2 ship (science , tacital and cruiser). Its fun to run into someone who is doing serious TREK role play, they salute if someone of higher rank is in the room and stand at attention, lol. Other end of the spectrum, people love to spay their fire extinguiser for no reason.

I started a 2nd character, a Borg captain , with a borg first officer, all TACTICAL :D

I also have a 3rd character, a female trill captain , for a Cruiser.

I am gonna hold out on the Klingons till the content patch that is planned 2 months or so from now.

I have 2 friends who are Admiral (ranks 42 and 43) who say they aren't getting any more missions from starfleet, so it would seem the content dies around then.

PVP is quite fun ( even at Lt Cmdr) if you get on a good team, its random if you just queue yourself, or if you get with 4 people you can queue as a team. You gain 80-120 XP per match, and 75 merits ( used to buy better gear ) per match along with 2000 or so energy credits and addional crew skill points).

*** I will say it does need work, one mission I was on, the game told me special torpedos were in my inventory. They were not, as my inventory was full, I had to make room for them, which I did, and still nothing, so I had to die, respawn, and then they were there the 2nd time.

Have a friend interested in Star Trek Online? Maybe he or she saw you vanquishing a Borg cube and was interested in more? Now, with the Star Trek Online Buddy Key, you can invite them along on your adventures, unrestricted, for five whole days.

Here's how it works:

1. Visit the Star Trek Online Buddy Key claim center (http://www.startrekonline.com/claim_buddy_key) to claim your key.
2. Click "Claim My Buddy Key."

The number of Mac/"Mac" people here playing STO is quite likely very minute but user doh123 on the sto forums came up with a method of playing STO in OS X explained (and available for download) here (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=76799).

What the heck is the Unofficial Mac version?
Its a mac .app you can put the Windows version inside of, and run it on Mac OS X without having to install or use Windows! The final product looks and works like a normal Mac .app (for the most part). This download is a "wrapper" not the full game. You will have to either copy your installed version from Windows inside of it (fastest), or reinstall the game into it and do full patching and everything... More specificly, it is a WineskinSC wrapper made in Wineskin

Version 1.1 is released! (1.1 fixes the installer error in 1.0... installing should work again)
It wont run much different than beta4 from what you will see while using it...
Changes since beta4

* Using a full WineskinSC 1.0 based wrapper, which has tons of improvements and bug fixes... most of which is not noticable under normal use, but behind the scenes type things (too much to list everything that would matter)
* Using stock Wine build of Wine version 1.1.41
* Using a devel build of Xquartz, much newer than beta4s build
* Everything runs under a single Icon... no seprate launcher icon and running icon
* The Manual is made much easier to use, with a table of contents.

just a big note...

this is not made by or supported in any way by Cryptic Studios, or anyone associated with Cryptic Studios.. this is entirely fan made, by me (@doh123)... with the use of my own project called Wineskin, which uses Wine, and Xquartz to run Windows software.

System Requirements are the same as Windows version, since it uses the Windows version, but it runs on Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5, or 10.6.
Only Nvidia and ATI GPUs will work right.
Intel GMA950 and X3100 will not work, sorry
PowerPC Macs will also not work, this is Intel Mac only.

How is this game fairing? I have read mixed reviews. Most of my MMO friends hated it and thought it was released too soon. Not enough content, graphics not up to par with current games...not very much polish makes it frustrating at times.

I tried it out & I think it's not worth it... The Character Creation is probably one of the best things about the game. Very detailed & tons of options... Space is cool, but I think is lacking something, just can't put my finger on it. Ground battles are clunky & stupid & I just tried to avoid ground combat after a while.

I think WoW is still the best MMO out there...

In reply to another post on here long ago, Star Wars Galaxies was a great game till the space expansion came out then everything went down hill from there... I had a Wookiee Jedi Knight... Rip :(

I'm hoping Knights of the Old Republic MMO is the game I hope it is b/c if so I'd leave WoW for it... :)

srsly?!

I'd leave WoW for the adventures of barney and friends on-line. Its a terrible MMO, they just hired a bunch of psychologists and focussed on making it as addicting as they possibly could. It really is a terrible mmo.

LMAO hahahaha... Yeah I like it & no I don't think it's addicting, in fact taking a little hiatas from it for the time being to take care of other things & such. I'll pick it back up later in a month or so. Though it can be if you are a person with addictive tendencies.

But I don't think it's terrible, I do really enjoy it. But to each their own... :)

to each their own indeed , so far here is how I rank:

WOW - 2 days and hated it , tried it again on a private server 2 years later with tons of XP and cheats and stuff - still hated it!!!
WAR - 6 days and gave up , very meh , I was a dwarf who was very bored
AOC - 1 days , never made it off the beach tutorial.
EVE - almost 11 months combined play time since launch, I sub 1-2 months here and there to see whats changed, I can't find anything I really like to do besides mine in it.
STO - Playing 4-6 hours a week since the BETA. I have 5 characters at different levels, I log on with each at least once a week. And love the PvP.

I think it also has to due with the knowledge and attraction to the history that is presented in the MMO. I've followed TREK non-stop since 1987. So I feel I understand the dynamics and background of the MMO and can relate to it better.

Man, I haven't played an MMO for about 3 years when I gave up WoW. I played that for about 6 months. Before that I played Dark Age of Camelot, but I just didn't get it at the time. This game kinda interested me, but I don't want another time-thief in the form of an MMO. Maybe one day when I have lots of time on my hands.

A friendly reminder:

Player characters (at least level 10 or higher) that complete the Deferi mission series before 3AM PDT October 14th 2010 will receive a Breen Tactical Officer Candidate in addition to the regular mission reward. The Breen officer's unique ground ability is the Superior Cyronic Visor Beam, a visor-emitted chill ray that holds/KBs the target. The Breen officer's appearance cannot be modified.

The Breen BO may or may not be available in the future through the c-store, I'm thinking it will eventually go to the c-store, but if you're sure you want it you better get online and finish that episode series.

Season 3 is out, anyone still playing?

I am on at least once a week, still a fun PEW PEW game, that isn't butt hurt when dead like EVE is.
