So your headphones connect to your computer via an optical cable?
Make sure the digital output is turned on in the windows sound options.

I can't say for sure, I don't use vista, but it should be in the sound properties in the control panel.
Did you install the chipset drivers for the motherboard?
i did installed my chipset, and check all the properties of my sound control ( soundmax blackhawk) there's digital output there, i already enabled it. but still my headphones not working. maybe i just go back to xp 64bit?

Can you just hook the headphones up with an analog cable? Or do you HAVE to use a digital connection?
correct me if im wrong, analog is stereo only?? so the 5.1 sorround is useless if i just hook up the analog. :bang head:bang head

I'm confused,
What are you hooking the optical up to? Optical is S/PDIF which is also stereo, unless you're passing a Dolby Digital / DTS stream through in which case you need something to decode that.
In Vista, go under Sound in the Control Panel and set the S/PDIF toslink as your default output device.

No, you can do surround sound over an analog connection, it uses 3 connections. The product descriptions for the headphones say it has analog inputs. There should be 3 headphone jack looking inputs somewhere.
You're actually better off with the analog, so you can get true 5.1 in games. With the optical, you can only get true 5.1 in movies unless... you have a DD live card, which you don't.

Ohhh I see... just use analog. The Virtual 5.1 is pretty worthless, in fact it probably sounds better with just stereo anyways.

hhmmmm.. ok if i hook up the analog, i cant use my speakers at the same time, i often use the speakers and headphone at the same time. and wire management, you know.

Have you tried unplugging your speakers from the analog? The sound card might be disabling the optical port when it detects an analog connection. Just a thought though.
