I'm not too sure but I think its like a Social Insurance Number, or Social Secruity number where it permits you to work but to also pay taxes if you were making like around 6 grand canadian here in Canada.

why would I need a Tax number? My teacher said something about tax's and running your own buisness. You can buy a bently and say it is for your buisness, Getting to work and back. And right it off on your taxs. but there HAS to be a place, like a shop, and its a REAL REAL big pain to get a tax something for buisness out of a house. almost gotta TRICK them.

Ok first about me. I am 15 years old and live in the UK. I still go to school.

In september 2001 I set up a Limited Company called MoboCity Ltd which I run from home. As my company is a limited company, the fact that I work from home and that I am only 15 is not an issue at all. All of my business takes place on the internet and my company website is nearly up and running. I found it easy to get Barclays Bank to help me accept credit card payments.

Im not sure about in the US, but in the UK every company has to pay tax. However VAT is a totally different thing and your company has to make over £56,000 a year to register for VAT. You then have to charge your customers VAT and pay it to the VAT people but anything you buy that is for your business eg. stock, computers, etc. you can claim the VAT back on.

I hope I have made some sense, if I can do it at 15 I'm sure anyone else can.

Im not sure a tax number is the right name, but it lets you orders from compines at wholesal prices.

Try and find your local Small Business Development Center. They can give you information on what you need and what you can do.

A resellers license your local gov building will have applications, which will in turn allow you as DrDingo says to purchase from vendors at wholesale. Just keep in mind alot of vendors want you to purchase in bulk quantity if you do become a reseller. Resellers license's are cheap about 5 - 10$ BUT Remember you MUST claim it on your personal taxes. Just my two cents
