hey, I was wondering what Software do you guys use for live cams, IF you have one? any free software out there? and I was wondering if there was a way to make a server download the Stream for my computer and have the same server push it out? Rather then the stream coming Directly from me?

Do those work on a webpage? I know of those, but those require the otherperson to have the same thing.
I use the Logitech Quickcam thing.

go with truetech (http://www.truetech.com/), it's a freeware prog that pipes your web cam through the camarades (http://www.camarades.com) web site. random people from all over the globe can happen on your cam [and they do....]. they'll give you an "http://xxx.camarades.com" address also, not too bad. not sure if there's an option to add the cam to an existing page though  i just linked to my cam page from my home page. hope that helps

I want something that Uploads to a sever, then THAT sever uploads the stream, on cameradas, I have to upload a stream to whoever is watching, Thus my Bandwidth going all to hell.

question... if you're uploading to a server, i don't care where that server sends the info... aren't you still streaming? unless you're talking about a prog that uploads a single pic at certain intervals.

It will not matter if the vid is being pushed from your computer to the webserver or pulled by the webserver from your computer, bandwidth usage would be the same. It is a point-to-point data transfer. It is other things such as video size and video quality that will effect bandwidth usage between your computer and the webserver.
Have you checked with your ISP about putting streaming video on your website? For personal web pages most ISPs only allow a certain amount of bandwidth usage per month (in addition to the server space limitation), if you dont believe me check the terms of usage you agreed to when you created your website. If you have anyone actually come and watch your video you could very quickly exceed the limits and have your ISPs wanting more money for the bandwidth you are using.
Why do you think all those webcam sites only have limited refreshes instead of streaming vid.

I dont get it, Isnt the Server Faster then a home DSL account? I wana use the Server as a Repeter, know what I mean? The Upload to the Server, FROM ME, will be constant. and the people that want to see the Stream will connect to the server, thus causing multiple connections on the server, rather then Directly to me. so Streaming is Direct connection? and That FTP with that Java Refresh thing is something difrent???
I think you are confusing speed with bandwidth. With your DSL account you have a certain amount of bandwidth that you can access the internet with through your ISPs servers (this is not the same as the web server that is hosting your web page). With most ISPs if you exceed a certain amount of bandwidth per month they may try to charge you a higher monthly fee. In addition to your internet access your ISP also provides you with space on a web server to host a personal webpage. The bandwidth for the webpage is different from your internet access bandwidth. In the fine print of your agreement with your ISP is probably a bandwidth limit for access to the webpage. If you exceed that bandwidth limit they will assume that you are using the webpage for commercial purposes and want to charge you a higher monthly fee. Video streams consume very large amounts of bandwidth so if you have alot of people accessing your video from your webpage you are going to be using a huge amount of bandwidth. If your ISP notices this they are going to want more money from you.

ok, yah, Bandwidth. I get the difrence now, sorry peeps. hmm, I dont think I have a limit on my DSL acount, Ive onced DL for 2 days Straight, MAXing my Bandwidth, Downloading multiple things from multiple people. so is there anyway to set my computer up to be my own webpage server, thus connecting via a IP number???

Are those fairly easy to use Yodums?
I want to get some of my less computer savvy friends on video chat, or whatever you call it.
And, if they are easy to use, where can I get them? And will they work with any webcam? I am still searching for a webcam for all of us too. Want a good price, don't need stunning quality. Shooting for under $40 for sure, with software.
