OK, i got a new 60 gb hdd. I plugged it in, and started to install win xp on it. Then it said that some file was corrupt. So, i formatted and restarted. nothing works on it. So, i plugged my old 20 gb hdd in, and now it gets a black screen and says NO OPERATING SYSTEM.
Wtf? anyone got any ideas.... troubleshooting steps... ANYTHING?! I'm stuck here!
I think it messed with your MBR.
Your going to probably wipe it out and do a fresh reinstall.
Yodums
The mbr could be it. It could also be a master/slave problem. and I'd also check the bios to make sure that it's autodetecting or being pointed to the device correctly.

ok, heres an update. I got the 60 GB working perfectly. But the 20 GB doesnt even register as being there. I changed the jumper to everything.... and every time it starts, it will go to "Operating System not found" if i load off of A:, i cant even find the hard drive as being there.
I get past the POST, and after that, it searches for the PROMISE 66 BIOS, and it says its not installed. I have a dell XPS T700. Any way for me to install that in the bios? i tried flashing it with the current version... A11. no taking
The error i get is "Ultra66 Bios Not Installed" after i get a Search labelled "Detecting" then after the first message, it goes to a black screen with "operating system not found" written at the top.
Thats it.
