hi all,

My current setup has 4x8800gt/gts in one board and it gets really hot .
EVen having a fan blowing at them still 88-92C during folding with 85*F room temp.

would it help if I replace those stock hsf on cards with aftermarket hsf? (ie accelero s2 ).

~Kevin

What fan speed setting do you have set on GPU's and also dought you would get all 4xGPU's with aftermarket hsf? (ie accelero s2 ). on the board maybe two off.

I do not think you can fit them all with the S2. Its a very big HS and it doesnt sit flush with the card and is on a slight angle.

i set 70% on those default fans.
i'm not sure how much would the aftermarket hsf help.

Try replacing the TIM on the card. Also, I'm pretty sure they are safe up to 125C.

what is the TIM anyway ?
Try to google and not found :)

Thermal Interface Material

Increases heat transfer between two contact points.

I'd run the fans up to 85% and experiment with underclocking the gpu core and memory, while overclocking the shaders to further reduce temps.

ChasR: I will try that

Those 8800GT's are blowing all their hot exhaust air right back into your case and just circulating it right into the intakes of your GPU's -unless you have some sort of exhaust fan placed close to the exhaust point on those 8800GT's. If you follow the links from the post "51-Card nVidia Folding Rig..." you'll eventually get to this post (http://www.x64bit.net/site/board/index.php?showtopic=6003&hl=) which shows a lot of pictures of the setup. Scroll down to the pic of the rig with the 4x 8800GS's and you'll see that he has a fan set over the cards by their exhaust point to get rid of all that heat. So if you would feel so inclined to do a little case modding to position a fan in your pannel close to that position over your 8800GT's, to get rid of their exhaust, I'll wager you'll notice a dramatic drop in temps. You wouldn't need a fast, loud fan either.

Also,

Replace your TIM +1
Underclock GPU and Memory +1

Probably with a MSI K9A2 plat. It has 4 PCIe x16 slots

Id still like to see this. And id like to see if they are all bridged

he never said they were in sli and there are plenty of boards that can run four pci-e 16x cards.

as for a cooler you might look at the Zalmans, they seem to do a good job and im pretty sure they would fit.

i still dont get it, they dont need to be and cant be unless he uses some wierd combo of bridges.

He didn't ask if they needed to be connected. He asked "HOW" they're connected, *if* they are connected.

I'm with you, I don't believe they can be, but let's see what the real answer is.

An 8800GT can get full PPD's out of a 4x PCI-E lane, 16x lanes are not necessary.

Boards with 4-4x PCI-e lanes aren't that expensive either. Ask Nitteo about his farm for more details, he uses a lot of them.

Yeah, I got a MSI P6N Diamond open box for about $100. If I could have gotten it about a week earlier, I would have gotten it for $80. 4 PCI-E slots and running all 4 will give you 8x,8x,16x,8x.

Hmm, it is down to $94 with free shipping. I need to make and sell more seam rippers.

Again you miss under stand:bang headI dont care if they are brigded.I know that there is noway to bridge them that i can think of except to use a ribbon brigde. But MSI did include 3 brigde's that look to be of differnt lenghts.Im sure they aint brigded. But when he bought one of my 8800GTS 512mb (G92) he told me he couldnt wait to run them in TRI SLI which isnt possible either with 8800GTS

Why am i worried about what you think anyway.I hate when somebody takes a remark and makes an issue of it:screwy:.
