Regarding the "battle" for 1st. Like they say in NASCAR, catching is one thing, passing is another.

FWIW, RAC on 1st 9550 is 1800, 2nd is just over 1k. I know they both have more.;) just need patience. Bad and Nutn both have a RAC over 3k on their 9550's.:sn:

OK, so I did have to reactivate Vista after changing out the motherboard. :p

How does Vista do with Rosetta compared to XP, Ben? Does it crunch Rosetta slower or is it about the same?


I don't know how to easily find two identical WUs that both of my quads have worked on (at least, not thru the rosetta website), but most of the WUs are taking 10.5k seconds (+/- 500) to complete on either quad. Both quads are configured at 400x8 and each has 4 GB of RAM running 1:1, one is XP x64 and one is Vista x64. The RAC on the Vista box is already over 1300, while the RAC on the XP box appears to have plateaued around 1700, but the XP quad is also running f@h on the GPU, and that is probably robbing some CPU cycles here and there. I've been crunching rosetta on this Vista install for maybe six months now and the system has behaved very well. :)

People call me crazy, but I actually like Vista. :D

I'm broke anyway, 4 quads in the house is enough. Damn KVM switch quit on me today so I just ordered up a new one.

NUTN probably pulled a "me". I had a power blip that rebooted the machines, 1 rig was still set up to manually start, "me" forgot! Well that quad was nice and cool today.

We may have woke a sleeping giant in VTC (Much like the Pirates woke up this team)

Their RAC is 101k+ and they are currently ranked 6th in RAC.

With the pressure MPC is putting on the folding team, I don't expect everybody back to full power on Rosetta, though at the end of the month my rig will be switched back over and I'll keep my 2-8800gt's on folding.

Not all of the lost RAC will be coming back though, the q6600 I had folding (team 32) the past few weeks just got sold. I had to finance part of the "new" folding rig somehow.

We're going to be getting pressure like that until we have one of our super folders back. We only require ~5K more RAC to get where we want to be however, which is firmly seated back on the front page.

The Good & Bad News
I got my Asus M?B back, BUT the Stupid idiots sent me back the one I sent them, as I put a secret Dot on it ( Flouro Yellow) thats how I new,
so after a mouthfull on the Phone for another 30mins they are resending a replacement, they Didnt Apologise though.
So again have to wait, so will be back on Deck when it finally arrives,

The Wife,s PC had to stop for a while as was interfering with what she is doing at the moment (Application wise) and had a few bad WU client faults too, had to abort them.
A couple of times they made her PC shut down, so for now Rosetta is of line on her PC for now, when she is ready for me to have access to it will install the latest Boinc Mgr 6.4.7

ok so my i7 rig should be up and running by this weekend... though since im using the same case/hs for i7 that means my #1 rig will be down. im just glad i can use the same hs still on i7, since gene has lga775 mounting holes... making this one hs the most used hs of any that i have owned, first used a on P4-530j,E6400,E4300,Celeron-L 420,E7200. kinda crazy when i think about it....

funny enough i would see those temps with the denkis on low...on the i7 at that speed they are on med, if i use low temps climb to the low 80'c.

I was trying to judge the RAC based on what Baditude was getting on his, but he wasn't running 24/7 and it was his main (IIRC). I'm leaning toward waiting on the i7 right now, but if it's going to be worth it RAC wise vs the q9550's I'm currently running...

i7 with HT enabled folds like crazy. At 3.6GHz I hit 3K RAC and climbing on this machine and it is my Daily use rig. If I left it alone for 24/7 folding it would leave my old 3.8GHz Q9550 in the dust.
I'm not sure why anyone would think about folding without it. Kind of defeats the purpose. Disabling HT may produce less heat however, I don't know since I've never tried it.

You and NUTN were both getting around 3k with your q9550's, 'tis the main reason for the my latest round of upgrades. My q6600's, with lower clocks, were getting 1.5 to 1.7k. My 2 9550's are @2k and slowly climbing. ( that last thousand seems to take forever.)

Q9550 #3 just started crunching last night.

Yep. The 9550 was just over 3100 when I took it off line. The i7 is currently at 3086 and still slowly creeping up.

I can't complain about my 6600, it has been between 2300-2500 depending on the work units. There must be slower or less point work units going around because the rac's are dropping a little bit. I am about to break or already did 400,000. I can't believe it is that high already. It is amazing what the quad cores are capable of. Sometime I will add another one, we need to get situated house wise first.

hard for me to think im getting close to Top 10 in RAC with just my i7 at 3.4ghz... i wonder where it will stabilize at. right now i havent been using my rig much but for the past couple of day i have been playing Dead space with rosie in the background. love this setup, i got some parts i might sell soon. really want to put together a full time rosie on i7 and FAH on GPU setup.. getting money for such a think is really hard, im still waiting to hear about a new job. might be another 2months for it now... :(

FAH team would have to make a really big boobo for them to come to rosetta... that would be monsterous though, the sad thing is no GPU client for rosie anytime soon. there is some talk they might do GPU when OpenCL takes off down the road.. they dont want to have to develop two packages to allow GPUs to do work. another sad part is there is not use of SSE/SSE2 instruction set. here again though there is some talk of the team looking into use SSE3.. god if we had some cpu tweaking done, i bet atom cpus would be faster at crunching.. which reminds me, i need to get my 330 box back up since i replaced the NB fan that was dieing...

well if FAH team can hold off or put some distance on the other team on thier heels. maybe we can ask for some help,when thing calm down. with as much GPU work i see them doing which out does some quad cores, im sure we might be able to get a few later.

I think it's great when forums members can get together and collectively kick ass, regardless of what team they're on. Maybe we can get a rally going sometime after we hit 40th place. Get some prizes on the go and get people over here to help boost our RAC. I've had this in mind for a while, I just didn't want it to overlap with March Madness or something like that.

The GPU's do put out some serious points (folding) Since the folding team put the call out for help, I plugged some graphics cards into my rosie crunchers. 2 GTX-260's, 2-8800gt's and my antique dually are putting out about 20k ppd (according to fahmon)

drshivas, I'm not going to be pulling over intentionally to let you pass, but it might seem that way. Random instability on a couple of rigs is going to have me troubleshooting for a little while. I've been chasing this for a little bit now, I suspect that adding GFX cards to the rigs (to help the folding team) may have pushed the power draw for that room over the edge. (the rigs were fine as long as I had my old PCI cards in there)

I seem to have an issue also, hopefully someone can help. I've been working on getting another rig going (e6300) I d/l the newest BOINC client and it seems to be running fine- BUT under the "view" tab, all I have is "simple" and "advanced" view. Any idea what happened to "accessible" and "grid" view? Without "accessible" view, I don't have the side buttons. HELP! I don't really want to trash the install, but if I have to...

Possibility, Windows isn't fully patched, I'll patch that up later and see if anything changes.
That HD is getting nuked anyway, I was just hoping for an easy way not to trash the WU's already on it. I did set the local cache to 0 days of work, hopefully I don't get more on it.


***EDIT***GOT IT, just one of those new little "features". In the older versions you just chose "accessible" from the "view" tab. In the new version you choose "advanced " view from the tab, then click on the project, POOF the buttons are usable. no more accessible view. Talk about a DOH! moment.

My q9550's are as follows.
Main @3.7
#2 is @3.8
#3 is @3.8 This one is the one I picked up from Baditude, I was having some stability issues I can't quite put my finger on, I highly suspect I was pulling to much power off of one circuit in the house hence the low RAC. it was perfectly fine until I added 3 graphics cards and 2 duallys to the same circuit.

@ 3.8ghz. they should be pulling just over 3k. At least that's what Bad's and NUTN's were pulling.

do any of your Q9550's run 24/7 or are some offline? cause comparing atm my i7@3.4ghz vs the highest rac Q9550@3.8ghz. it looks like i7 is the way to go for rosetta with HT on, i still want to do a run in while when rac maxes out with HT on.

So far my i7 at 3.8GHz is pulling 3200 RAC. That's only marginally better than my old Q9550 at 3.8GHz. I'll have to wait and watch for a bit longer, but so far it appears the 9550 would be the CPU of choice for Rosetta especially when you consider price.

The one thing I will mention though is that I don't leave this machine crunching 24/7, it is my daily machine. So the fact that it beats the 9550, and it does so while being idle for 3-5hrs a day, may make it worth the extra cash as a folder for some.

My 9550's haven't topped out. I was having stability issues, I'm hoping I was just overloading the circuit. I've pulled the extra video cards and shut down 1 old rig and things seem to have stabilized. I guess I may have tried to help the folding team a little to much.

I'm not sure about the DQ6 board, that was bar none the most stable setup I ever had. I ran that with an HX520 and an ATI 4350. I think that was the key. High quality, clean power and low power GFX = no issues whatsoever. Not sure what you're running for a PSU, but that would be my #1 suspect.

As far as RAC from a 9550, 3.1K was the plateau at 3.8GHz for the one I sold you. Not sure how anyone would get more out of it unless there was a rash of high point, fast completion WU's lately.

I checked the Rosie stats page and NUTN's is pulling 3300 out of his.

The DQ-6 and the ep45t-extreme, I can't complain about either one. My stability issues I thought was PSU. (Hiper 630) when I installed a pair of 8800gt's. I replaced the psu with a Corsair 850, unstable. Replaced the 2 cards with a GTX 260 ,unstable.

Both rigs were fine with the old PCI cards in them. I just stood back and looked. The rigs were on separate outlets, but on the same circuit :eek:. So I had gone from 2 quads, then added 3 graphics cards and by old dual Opteron folding. I had the DQ-6 idling, so I tried something. Prime 95 and ATI tool, the lights started flickering in the room :bang head. I shut down the old AMD and pulled the graphics cards, and all is well.

Alone the rigs are fine with whatever I install for cards. If I had decided to keep everything going I would have to run another power circuit to that room.

After that, we'll have a ~500K gap to bridge b4 we take 37th spot from AMD Users, then a quick hop into 36th spot punting out US-Distributed. This should all take place within the next couple of weeks, reducing in time as our RAC climbs of course.

Then it's on to our old Nemisis VTC! Currently #35 and 1.4M pts ahead of us, they are but a spec on the Horizon. But the important part is they are back on our Radar, whereas only a few weeks ago, they were GONE! You can bet they've spotted us, and I'll be keeping an eye on them and see if they do the same thing as last time: Turn on the afterburners as we approach :bang head. We all know what they are capable of, let's see if we can out crunch them this time! We're already on our way to doing just that so keep it coming people!

My RAC & FAH PPD are slowly getting back to normal. Utility Co. attached a device (http://155.13.50.30/SC3/PowerOutageCenter/AirConditionerCyclingEvents/) on my AC last summer to shut-off the compressor when the demand is high. Supposedly it's a voluntary program but they made it mandatory in my case.

Anyway, something went wrong with it and refused to turn-on the compressor. Temps were unbearbale (93F downstairs, 112F upstairs). I had to shut-down pretty much everything for awhile. Was using a portable AC to cool off some rigs but they were just cancelling each other out.

Glad the mini heat-wave is over.

I'll be without a folding rig for a week or two. I've found a good opportunity to sell my current system which will allow me to offset a large portion of the cost of the new system that I just ordered. Unfortunately I just sold my backup rig, so no folding/gaming puter for a while. The withdrawal will be unbearable.
Although most of the new machine will be here next week from Newegg, I have to wait for a certain someone to get back from GOOC in L.A. next Wednesday b4 he can ship out the CPU. So My RAC will drop like a rock, but I'll be back the day the rig comes together.

Lol, well...

I just pulled the trigger on a Foxconn Bloodrage GTI and a 6gig set of the Dominator GT's.
I had the Gskill perfect storm CL7T's in mind, but the GT's were almost $100.00 less expensive, so I had to go that way.
I was a little late on MIAH's i7 920 D0 listing in the classifieds so he was kind enough to offer me the chip he's been testing or grab me a new one. Pretty cool. Looks like he's gonna get his cold @ GOOC though, so Imma wait. Gonna be very interesting to see what he can do with it frozen since I know he can really put the boots to a CPU.

I bought an RMA return HD4870 512MB off MIAH a few days ago as well, so my current one will have a twin soon. I've been neglecting the benching team lately so this system will be a bit more bench oriented.

Looks like I missed the $119 CDN Shipped deal on the OCZ Vertex 30GB drives at newegg.ca so I left those off the order for now. No biggie.

Evilsizer, looks like your on to something. Rosie servers have been acting "hinky" today as well. Down for maintenance, project communication failed, servers busy, I even got the can't access shared memory error.

I'm getting times when everything is working, but it seems to be getting worse as the day goes on. Hopefully their servers aren't getting ready to tank.

We had a brief hiccup today with our filesystem which brought the project down for a few hours. The redundancy in the Polyserve file server system that handles our BOINC data failed during a routine maintenance window. No outage was expected, and it took a long time to get the multiple servers communicating again.

According to your boincstats (http://boincstats.com/stats/user_graph.php?pr=rosetta&id=274256) your posted "credit per day" has taken a downturn since the 27th, probably because of the server issues. Your RAC should start returning in the next few days.

Oh wow, I just saw the team RACs- something is definitely busted. At least it seems individual rigs are getting counted right, so it may just be a matter of a database update.

If they're "computation errors" it's more than likely your rig.

If it's more like down for maintenance, project communication failed, servers busy, can't access shared memory error etc. it's the servers. (posts 1148-1152) They've been acting "weird" as far as team RAC also.

If you go into the task tab in BIONC Manager, what version are the work units? If they're the new version 1.64, then it's almost guaranteed that your Kaspersky is just blocking the new executable. Add it to the trusted program list and done. KIS is great for everything except when Rosetta comes out with a new version. You get computation errors until you catch it and allow in KIS.

Time for the weekend update!

We're very close to stealing 36th place from the clutches of AMD Users.
In fact, we're less than a day away at our current pace from what I can tell.
I'm going to manually calculate stats and overtake times for the time being, since the stats are giving some funny numbers. I'm gonna assume a constant rate and use a conservative estimate of 60K PPD from our team for all calculations today.

We're only ~30K away from our next overtake. Which means we should be there sometime tonight.
Then we need to bridge an 800K gap to get to 35th place, which will take us roughly 2 weeks at our current pace.
Once we're there though, it'll be smooth sailing past 34th and in to 33rd spot but another ~700K gap to overcome to get to 32nd. Then a big one! There is currently a 1.1M point gap between Rechenkraft.net in 32nd spot and BOINC.BE in 31st. It'll be ~18-20 days before we can do that, but when we finally do, the 30th place milestone is only ~100K away.

Based on current team's production, the overtake list should look something like this.

I'm soliciting from both the FAH and the SETI teams. Our goal will be to pile on as many points, and pass as many Rosetta teams as possible, during that week.

Current projections have us finishing the CC race on the 16th or 17th. Let's all pray that the Rosetta servers are functioning at 100% during this week long boost. :)

There will be an info post put up for new Rosetta folders, on the 16th. Regulars, get ready! With any luck from the servers, your team will be flying in 4 days.

Our RAC is almost where it was back at the end of April. Can't say enough about our awesome teamwork and the awesome contribution from all of our OCF bothers and sisters.

With that said, CONGRATULATIONS are in order!
35th spot is now ours! We've utterly steamrolled Team Starfire World BIONC into the ground.

Our old Nemesis VTC looks as though they have run out of steam, putting out a measly 9.5K. We are only 19K behind them and assuming all rates stay steady, we should be past them into 34th place sometime tonight! We all know what happens when they turn on the jets though, so I won't count them out just yet.

Good & Bad News

Well will start of with the

Bad news First

The Bad news is that Recently Our Home was Sold Out from under us, so will have to find and Relocate somewhere else, have been given Notice to Vacate by July 22nd,

And with the recent downfall and availability of properties due to economic reasons, and also recent devastating Bush Fires making it extremely hard to find a New home, to Lease/Rent

So Folding / Rosetta will have to take a backseat whilst the Moving and relocating / reconnection of services ect takes place.

Applications for 2 Premises have already fallen through, and Being on a Disability Support Pension doesn't help the matter either, nothing can do about that,,, though,

Just hope we dont end up homeless, Wife not well at the Moment and all of this is really stressing her more too.

Good News

The Good News is I will be Folding / Rosetta machines will keep on to help with the Push till the Day before we have to move as the Computer equipment will be the last to be Packed up.

Hopefully the Property that I just sent a application for through our current agent will be accepted ( Available in about 3 weeks Mid June) as we have an excellent References with our current agent of the last four years, and this property is managed by them and they do not want to lose us, as Tennant s

Thanks everyone. Since adding a fatter washer to my first quad's TRUE I've been able to bring its load temps down nearly ten degrees, I might be able to keep this quad doing work throughout the summer. Keep 'em folding! :beer:

Speaking of 38mm fans, I just picked up 4 of the YateLoon Lowspeed 38mm's. Talk about quiet. And they move enough air to keep everything on the board cool. They replaced 4 YL Mediums, and it sure is quiet in here now.
Had to bend a new Brolloks Bracket out of thicker Al though, there's a significant amount more vibration than the 25mm Yates.

Anyone else get a bad batch of work units? My 6600 which has been running at 3.2 since I put it together and was running rosie with no issues until I put it in storage. Since having it online again it had about 45 work units under it's belt and now all of a sudden it had 5 compute errors. I am going to let it go for a little bit and see if it clears up. I guess if I have to I can drop it down to 3.0. I know temps aren't a problem, it is at 47*C at load.

Alrighty, time for the weekend update!

Our team RAC has gone down slightly(likely due to Adak and Jin dropping down a bit), but we are still a Rosetta Juggernaut at 79.5K. We're gaining very fast on our next target Rechenkraft.net who have just passed the 22M mark. We are now only 572K Behind them, whereas last week we were 900K behind them. Now that's progress! And it's all due to our team's excellent effort!
Only ~10 more days until we take 32nd spot! Have a look at our overtake projections:

Looking off towards the horizon, we can see BIONC.BE(who will be passed directly after Rechenkraft.net), and Team China who will be passing the stagnant EMU CompSci team b4 we get to them sometime in late Q3/EarlyQ4. That's when we will claim our next major Milestone: 30th Place!!!.
This all assumes that rates stay constant of course; let's hope our new found POWAH will stay with us for the push to the TOP20!

If you use your daily rig for folding Rosetta, just stay off it for a few more hours a day. That'll add a few hundred to your RAC right there. Works for me. I just use that time to do something constructive like spring cleaning or walking the dogs etc.

Yeah, that was the same for my old dedicated machine as well. You can only stay off more, if you're actually on it to begin with, no doubt. I guess you'll just have to overclock it till it screams then. :p

I'm sure there were some variables you can set that reduce the CPU demand of the GPU client - it was posted in the FaH forum. Can't remember off the top of my head...

Those variables only apply to ATI cards. With NV cards and current drivers, cpu usage is minimal.. around 1% or less
