Ok i really dont understand something, i have the Diamond Viper V770 Ultra and all my games run like a beauty even when i max out the settings, nothing ever skips or anything, and the quality is awesome, so why do people fuss over all these GeForce 2, 3 nonsense, how much better can my games run???

IT depends on what games and what resolution you run them at.
Not to mention the infinite number of hardware configurations that can be bought or put together.

if you run to systems, one with the Voodoo 5 5500, and the other with the GeForce 3 Ti500, how much difference would you notice, almost non, both cards are amazing, am i not right. yet the price difference is alot.

As game/graphics software catches up with and exploits the new features of graphics hardware, the differences will be more pronounced. But by then the "new" hardware is aging and much cheaper. That's why I was only willing to spend $118 for a video card in my new system and not $180-$300+.

Isn't the GeForce 4 on the horizon already?

Did you say that a voodoo 5 would run as good as a geforce 3 ti-500 ? thats the funniest thing i have heard in a while. I use to have a v7700 ultra and it was a great card at the time no doubt! it depends on what games you play and what resolution man. First and foremost you should run all games with the highest quality settings obtainable by your hardware, if you don't then why play games on computers because you can get crappy visual quality out of any console game for cheap. second what resolution do you play? are you still on that old 14" monitor? if so I feel sorry for you, all games look much better on bigger monitors, especially FPS games, you just can't obtain that virtual eperience looking at a tiny screen. With larger monitors comes not only larger pictures but better pictures by way of higher resolutions, higher resolutions = more and smaller pixels which creates better image quality. Unfortunatly when the old voodoo 5 came out it didn't live up to the hype and that was the end of 3DFX, my best friend bought one and i had a geforce 2 gts and i could run 1 resolution higher than he could in all games and his cost as much as mine did. 1 resolution setting makes all the difference in the world if your trying to achieve the best visual quality. I still have that old gefore 2 gts and my other friends geforce 3 ti-500 will not only kill it in framerate but it will kill it in the fact that it has alot of new capabilities that the old 2 does not, things that will make U2 and other games look their best. How you achieve a very playable game with that old card is beyond me, you either dont play a new game like max payne or RTCW or you dont run a resolution beyond 600.

Nothing makes you unhappy with your hardware faster than a friend who has something better! By all means, if you're happy with what you have, don't upgrade. With computer hardware, you can actually watch it becoming obsolete. I stay quite a ways behind the latest and greatest, 'cuz I can't afford to ride the crest of the wave. But even if you are staying a ways behind the times, new hardware coming out is still good news. A G-4 means that the prices on all the other Nvidia products will be coming down. And maybe I'll be able to afford a G-3 soon!

I presently run a voodoo 5 and play RTCW, max payne, quake, ut, all at 1024X768 16 bit 4xfsaa and games never skip a bit they due die hard and fast 1280X1024 glide. I guess it isn't the fastest or the best but com' on guys are you into gaming or FPS.

My next card will probably be a geforce 3 ti 500 when the price comes down but for now it does just fine.

quake III demo 001 with the above settings gives me 41 fps with the rig in sig. not mind blowing by todays standard but very playable.

And I would find it hard to beleive that anyone would see a very noticable difference between 70 fps or 170 fps while playing a game. Repoo man I agree some of us just can't afford the latest and greatest doesn't mean we don't want it. I think it would be easier if my wife like to game.

Only two games I really play on this computer that utilize the video card are Starsiege Tribes (not Tribes 2) and Counterstrike. For these two games, this good old Voodoo 4 4500 PCI gives me 100+ frames per second on Tribes and whatever the maximum is set to on my CS (I believe it is 72 or something). Games run great and I see no slowdown at all. I do have Tribes 2 but it doesn't run too good on this card, even with WickedGL. So I suppose I am in the market for a new video card, but this one will suffice until I decide when and what to buy. I could go buy a G3 Ti 500 now but I don't want to blow all that money. As long as the main games I play stay above 60 frames per second all the time, I'm a happy gamer.

By the way, I just dug up X-COM: UFO Defense and I am playing it again. This game is better than any game that's out today, I remember now why I used to love it so much. It's still as good as ever.

well as always two extremes...i know people who just got a Geforce3 for 400$ and are waiting so they can plop down another couple hundred for a G4....i also know people who are using RageII cards.....i think its best to stay in the middle....with my rage fury ro i noticed stuttering in games....so i upgraded.....now i can play any game i own (including Max Payne) at 1280 resolution.....also the older cards such as the Voodoo 5 will probably be upgraded fast when Unreal 2 comes out :)

Im a guy that likes to game more thin look at the graphics.....
I used to use a old TnT2 m64 and it ran about 60fps in CS well I thin got a gf2 ultra for my own computer about 1 year ago and I still dont think Im doing any better thin I did with the tnt.

I will probly upgrade to a gf3 ultra or a g4 but for right now this card handles everything you though at it.

my advice if you are getting below ~50 fsp thin its time for a new card (I think I have read somewhere that your eyes cant even refresh faster this 65fsp)

for me, if get a card I will get the best that is out so I wont have to upgrade for a nother 1 1/2
