looks good, most people I know don't even have home phones anymore though.

I have a friend who uses it. He likes it just fine and sound quality seems OK from my end when he calls. The drawback is that you must have your computer ON all the time in order to receive calls.

I have some friends that used these, but the audio quality was horrible. Major echo and lag. I suppose it depends on your internet connection, but still I wasnt impressed.

I have a buddy who uses this, it's a hair cheaper than Skype and seems to work OK. I used Vonage for years, that was flawless...

After the reviews I have seen, I would stay clear out of the way of this "gadget"

F???? wouldn't even consider this product.

“We strongly question the company’s reliability for reasons such as that they’ve failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law’s licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company’s industry is known for is fraudulent business practices.”

I'm not too sure if that's a valid statement. There are over 100,000 of happy people with it. There is a dedicated forum located here (http://unofficialmagicjack.forum2u.org/), and many many hacks developed for it. Its actually pretty impressive that for $19.95 a year, for unlimited calling. Granted there are people who got screwed and want their money back because the did not read the website carefully and now can't see cost benefits. It is very easy to fall into the marketing trap. With people being very click happy and excited they don't care during the ordering process. And once they made the choice you cant go back. I on the other hand did not fall for this marketing crap. However, when you order they hit you with a deal of a life time. 5 years for $59.95. That's $11.99 per year! Sounds awesome when you sign up, and of course they hit you again at the end, for $19.95 for two years, which is even cheaper, I still said no to everything.

Granted every product has pros and cons. The people who are complaining are probably the people who said yes to every question and now are out alot more than they wanted. MagicJack is hardware. Any soft phone software will work with it providing you have the SIP information on the device. From reading, the MagicJack has advertisements, but could be avoided with a little research. So I will be back with a full review on the product. sometime this week or the following...

I have a friend using it and he's happy with it. I find when I talk with him on it that the volume is very low on my end and makes it hard to hear. I guess if you are on a budget (like my buddy, who's blind) that it gives you a phone in the house. Otherwise he could afford a regular phone.

Their service is ok, they're a CLEC in most if not all states and have a suprisingly strong network (better thank skype's). What I would worry about is support. The company that I work at re-routes call per call. so if a call fails for just 1 customer, we will reroute it. I doubt they would, they'll go for the cheapest route possible.

Magic Jack was given to me as a gift from my parents since all we had was our cell phone and we kept going over our minutes limit. It works ok, there really isnt many problems with it. Every now and then you need to hang up after calling someone because it gets choppy like its lagging but it rarely happens, and call them right back. Could just be my ISP too. Instead of leaving my main pc on all the time I hooked it up to a basic system that I had laying around with a fresh install of 2k3. It runs well and never needs to be rebooted.
All in all its better than paying 50 bucks a month for my isp cable phone.

I just got it today... Its pretty impressive. Quality is comparable. The Volume can be changed in the menu... along with the mic volume too.
