hey'lo, been running xp for about 2 months now with no problems, but resently i wanted to lock my network and so i enabled the 'show icon when network is connected' so i did and then i disabled it and now i've noticed that xp on my machine and on my friends, will not install ANY programs from a CD or anything larger then 5 mb in size. so i tried to install office xp and it goes half way through and xp just stops installing, but doesn't lock up or freeze, any ideas?
should i just do a roll back?
That's pretty odd that changing your network settings would cause difficulty installing programs, but, yeah I'd go ahead and do a roll back and see if that works.
What exactly did you disable?

OK, i've tried to do the system restore, and when i try to it just locks up like when i try to do the roll back so i can't seem to get anything running back the way i had it a few days ago. What i changed in the network setting was as following steps:
opened properties
clicked on 'show icon in notification area when connected'
then icon flashes in the taskbar when connected to my high speed internet
so when pc boots up into windows it searches for it and slows right down then returns to normal
i'm really lost on this one guys, and i'm starting to worry if a re-install or a re-format is needed, and a format is really not wanted.
:(  :eh?:

I would definitly check your system for viruses ,have you tried different restore dates ,and one more thing ,it can take a long time to do a restore ,I have thought it was froze when it wasnt ,sometimes the movement in the bar is not even noticible.
