So far as HDD's go, they're actually pretty good at pricing. They package them better than Newegg does, too, IMO.

What I cant seem to figure out is what is the difference between the

ST31000340AS and ST31000340NS

The NS is listed at $219 and from seagates site the stats are virtually identical.

Difference between AS and NS... AS is the 7200.11 series, NS is the Enterprise version of that drive

thers a couple variations, mainly in temperature thresholds and operating shock, anual failure rate, and most notably MTFB... 7200.11 = 750,000 hrs ES.2 = 1.2Mill
