The XP1600 will work with the ABIT KT7A-/RAID with the newest BIOS update. I'm split between the ABIT & EPOX systems. I love ABIT but the EPOX sys is DDR but with the Duron..... sorry to confuse you:o Check the SHUTTLE MoBos. They are attractively priced & are extremely good performers.

My advice would be to find some extra work to get whatever you want. It's the only way to get what you want:beer:

Welcome to the forums Horrain :D .............It all depends on what you are going to be doing with your new MoBo and chip ...............if you are not going to be doing any OverClocking ;) any of them would be fine ...............I would lean to the Duron system because ya are getting DDR memory with it . Epox and Abit make good Over clocking boards either way...............But the Abit KT7a board is getting a little long in tooth though..................cheers

I love my Abit and it is definately the best OC'er but the ECS has DDR memory(and also pc133) but absolutely no OC'ing options whatsoever.I also have the 8KHA+ and it is a very good board but I personally would rather have the XP1600.Have you thought about the Shuttle AK31 with the KT266a.It is very cheap and a great OC'er.

Abit board. definetly. dont go for the duron at all, unless you want some extra $$.

I would go for the kt266a board. If you can work it out get the xp with it but if you can not you can always upgrade to the xp later. I would try and get a 1 Ghz Thunderbird to go with it and overclock it. Sorry if it is past your cost threshold but in the long run the board will be more upgradable.

For abit more money you can tune up that first XP Rig to last for about 2.5 years.

Heres My suggestion for it:

Epox 8KHA+/Epox 8K7A/Shuttle AK31 Rev(Not too sure find the lastest one though)

Athlon XP 1600+

Crucial DDR PC2700

Millennium Glaciator II

That will provide with all your needs except gaming since gaming is more video card related but it will still require some system requirements.

That rig allows you to run everything speedy and it also has overclocking avaliable with a very good cooler.

I would go for the...

Duron 1Ghz Socket A
Thermaltake Volcano 7
Epox EP-8KHA+ Socket A
256MB PC2100 Crucial

But, I don't think the Duron would fit in.
Save up some money, and change to a Xp.

I'd go with choice number 1.
