I just installed a new Pioneer DVD 116 slot drive and have had a few problems with it. This is an OEM drive. I am using Windows 200 Advanced Server and Power DVD XP for playback. When I play a movie it stops within 3 or 4 seconds and the program hangs. After a moment windows hangs and I have to reboot. I tried the same movie in Windows XP with the same Power DVD program version and it runs perfect. I have a feeling it has to do with the DMA mode. I have disabled and enabled DMA for the second IDE channel and that made no difference (which it is on as the master and the only drive on that channel). Power DVD has a tool to enable DMA with the drive but when I do that and reboot it shows that it failed. I updated the firmware and that made no difference also. Both Windows XP and 2000 are using the same driver versions i.e. video, chipset, etc. Any help please? :D

I have uninstalled and reinstalled it twice. Made no difference. I can try a different program but I prefer Power DVD.

I actually did try a different player. The movie (Rush Hour 2 BTW) has a program that you can install to play it. I did that and it also locks up and the same point as Power DVD.

Try Power DVD XP that might help in a 200 enviroment.

I figured it out! I guess I had enabled hardware acceleration and that is what was causing the problem. WOOT! :D
