...because NWN2 just BLOWS.
NWN2 is like a bunch of 12 year olds dressing up for a Sci-fi/Fantasy convention.
So I went and installed the REAL THING.
Who's with me for some epic (and free!) co-op?
*sigh*... why co-op with people when you can pop their heads off in CoD4 :\
Rainless count me in!
Are you playing the first with or without the expansion? I have my old cd's and will dig up the patch's to make sure we run the same versions then you just need to give my a time and an IP Address. You can be the host just make sure your character doesnt die :D
I am on Standard Eastern time and normally finish work at 4:00 p.m. and get home around 5:00 - 5:45
Edit:
I feel like playing a Cleric!

I don't need to download any special patch do I?

Dude I'm so in!!!
When/where?
I work till 9 pm EST tonight, after that I'm free. Gotta reinstall it though.
Maybe we can play through BG + Exp, then move onto BG2 + exp.
Let me know I've been trying to find people to do this somewhat regularly (once or twice every two weeks at least).

I don't own the original, just BG2 + expansion. Would love to do a multiplayer game without a bunch of hackers and crap. I do have a GameTap subscription, though, I think they have BG on there... anyway, give me an IP and a time.
I guess rainless can update his first post as we additional information.
I am at work at the moment and will be selling some ram tonight so it may not be tonight that we start so dont worry about it for those interested, I will search for what the highest patch was for baldures gate + expansion and post links to it.

I've been craving some BG2 goodness for a while now...have finished the entire series more times than I can count now with various mods etc...let me know if anyone is up for some BG2+ ToB. Best game ever made, IMHO.
Cheers,

Best game ever made, IMHO.
Black Ilse
A company that knows how to rock the boat when it came to rpg's, they had some bad scores eventually and they sank like a ship with Interplay though your indeed right. I love them it was about detail the game had lots of content and was overall really well made. You see and feel a diffrence with when you play it then and when you play nwn which if I recal black ilse had nothing to do with.
But im off topic :D
Your welcome to join any time, I am sure a BG2 Post will come up some time if this gets going.

Hahahahaha! :)
Well I'll dig around and see how this whole thing works. I'm busy as hell today... but if anybody has the game lying around and wants to help me test the internet thing and maybe figure out what ports need to be forwarded and whatnot, that would be appreciated.
We can do a "trial connection."

I can probably help you with that, I to have some things to do today but when I get home I will install the game find the patchs.
If I recal one of the first things to do is disable your windows firewall or add the game to the exception list or it wont allow othere's to connect (it does that for netstorm when I used to play) next is probably DMZ so outside computers can reach you. Though I am no network security guru :D
Edit Pette beat me to it lol.

I got excited and am now setting up bg1/2/expansions on my desktop (linux only, should be fine in Wine however). I HIGHLY suggest anyone wanting to play use Hamachi for an easy VPN solution instead of trying to forward the appropriate ports...I know bg2 has some serious issues running behind NAT, even with what should be an appropriate setup. https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/list.asp Very simple to use, I've played many tcp/ip BG2 games this way.

No, no, no, and no. NEVER EVER use DMZ if there are Windows systems behind that router. Just forward the appropriate ports. Again, Bioware's website is a good resource here :) USE IT!
1.02: [BG/BGII] - Settings for your hardware router/firewall: (Back to Top)
Ensure that port numbers 2300-2400 and 6073 are set up on the server for both "inbound" and "outbound" transfers on both "TCP" and "UDP" protocols
Google also suggests ports 1470, 15000 and 47624-49672. So,
1470
2300-2400
6073
15000
47624-49672
I can set up a Teamspeak server if wanted, also.

because if you do, enjoy the reformat.
Hahaha!
I better check up my network when I get home though I think it's off at the moment ever since the last router reset. It's good to know though, I think I will spend more time in the forum's Network area now rather then the game area :P
Teamspeak would be cool.

Downloaded it. No idea what it does yet... but I have it! :)
odin8yoshi
08-21-08, 03:22 PM
It creates a VPN, a sort of virtual private network. Think of it as a virtual LAN tunneled over the internet, after you join/create a hamachi network you are then connected via VPN to the other users in that network..perfect for games so you dont have to do any port forwarding, just connect in game via your Hamachi IP. I suggest creating a network just for us with a password so everyone can join and not worry about port forwarding. I can probably play soon, though I havn't even decided what character to play..that can take a day in itself... doh'.

For those who want to play but only have BG2,
BG1 isn't that long. The game is easily beatable within 20 hours if we are just sticking to getting the important loot from around sword coast(bracers of archery two maps west of Nashkel, Long sword +2, Gauntlets of weapon expertise from firewine bridge, etc) + story line.
I'd be either a fighter/thief or a druid.

EDIT: What would "Host address" be? Just my IP address? Or the address of the Hamachi thing?
petteyg359

Host address in game or in Hamachi? If in game it would be the IP Hamachi gave you, I think.

Whoever's hosting (Rainless, I assume) will start the TCP/IP game as usual with hamachi running and everyone else will connect to his Hamachi IP (5.x.x.x). I connected and just started working on getting BG running in wine, shouldn't take too long.

PeteyG and I just finished playing a solid hour or two.
We could probably clear out the game in a weekend if it's only 20 hours. Then...

I think I tossed the originals. I still have the BG2 + expansion that I tried playing like 20 times and always fell out of it cuz of newer games. But it really liked it and its still a pain in my side since I never played it more.
Are you using Hamachi?????
And how can you get through BG1 in 20 hours? What about the fun side quests?????? BG2 has supposedly over 200hours of play if you do side quests.

I'm still not sure rather or not BG1 running in wine will cooperate with tcp/ip play, but at worst ill run xp on another system to play. Ol' lady is calling me to bed but tomorrow I'll be available to play, maybe we can schedule atleast a once a week game night? odin8yoshi on AIM if anyone wants to reach me.

but count me in for BG2(unsure if I have the expansions or not) or NWN1+both expansions :D (NWN2 count me out though, it lost its magic :( )
Well we know it works for some, I think I just need to work out the kinks, it seemd to be messing up on my last night with the black screen and hanging when entering multiplayer games. I will uninstall and re-install the "recommended" and not the "custom" maybe that will make make a diffrence.
odin8yoshi
08-22-08, 08:13 AM
Do a custom install with ALL the components installed onto hd, MSI. Having to switch disc / extra loading time during multiplayer slows everyone down and really kills it. Were you hanging up only during a multiplayer game? Try single player. Also, give everyone a ping on hamachi (right click name in list, ping) and make sure thats working alright. I'll be around most the day if you want to try again.

Could be your anti-virus or firewall... all I had to do was accept the connection in Panda and it worked fine.
Also, some cable modems actually have presets for it. (I was looking at the config page for my friend's modem and there was an item in there for Baldur's Gate in the firewall section!)

We've already got thieves covered. We've got a Fighter/thief and a mage/thief. So we could use a bard or something different.
I can't BELIEVE that I didn't play this game for YEARS because I thought I'd lost my "Tales of the Sword Coast" cd... only to find out it was included in the other 3!
Sigh... It isn't as bad as losing Throne of Bhaal would've been...

Ya thats how I payed though the first time, every zone was asking for a diffrent cd.
Were you hanging up only during a multiplayer game? Try single player.
I tried single player and it worked fine, there was some graphic abnormalities, in the sense that some of the textures where not all there, example the clock for pausing and resuming the game was fine but the background showing day and night was black. It would hang when I entered in someones IP address AFTER connecting.
Windows firewall was disactivated.
I am not currently using an Antivirus as its a fresh windows install.
I could verify the port's on my router and re-map the ports.
I pinged someone on hamachi and got response at 73 ms, and timed out once after about a minute then came right back.
I am useing the old old cd's I have all 6 cd's (not dvd's) I know a freind that has a copy I will contact him today and see if I cant get it off of him somehow. I doubt it is my cd's as I have used it befor and it was working fine, ran though the game without any issues... I should really start doing iso back up's of my older games though :S
Looks like veryone can stealth so far :D
If I get this working I will be able to HEEEEEEAAAAAAAAL you people and ninja all the plate :P

This game is extremely easy on any difficulty if we have two types of parties
All archery - seriously bows in BG1 are so overpowered.
Stealth - stab and run, run out of map, stealth and repeat.

He means without the non-player created characters, ie jaheira, minsc, and so forth. It's 100% possible to play without them, single player or multiplayer. Sulretal and I just finished playing a couple hours without any NPC's. 1 bard and 1 thief/cleric is a little on the rough side.

BG1 is sort of a tiring game to play through... Not because it sucks... but because it's OLD. And not in the cute, Warcraft III-style of old... But more like the Warcraft 1 kind of old.
Going through the mines in Nashkel was TORTURE for me. There's a reason why they don't do stuff like that anymore.
I'd absolutely lose my mind if I had to do that in multi.
I really want to hurry and get to Baldur's Gate II.

I forget...can you take your BG1 characters into BG2?
Yes.

Gametap version will not allow the import of characters, how would this affect playing with everyone here?

Just means you can't import a BG1 character into BG2, nothing else.

I'm up for starting a fresh party in BG2. Thinkin straight up Cleric or Invoker Mage. (I've always loved magic missiles)

Cleric/Mage/Thief ftw :) But I don't recall if I had any mods installed when I did that.
I'd play, but I keep rather different hours from most folk.
Currently just finished BG and playing BG2 having imported my Fighter. Would be tempted to go Thief/Mage or Mage/Cleric for a multiplayer game.

Starting BG2 off WITHOUT players that had 8 different enchantments and didnt cause monsters to gib just by walking by them would be kinda nice

Been playing BG2, started with a monk - they're definitely hard to cope with in the earlier stages of SoA(still not a great AC, not many great bonuses arive yet). Just doing as many sidequests as I can before I attempt to rescue imoen from the cowled wizard keep. Not sure if it was a good idea though, fighting mind flayers and beholders at level 14 and below (my party) is really quite difficult and requires many reloads.
Definitely a fun challenge.

Anyone else? Rainless? Bueller?
Sorry, I was in the hospital.
And get this:
I don't know WHAT you guys that finished the first Baldur's Gate in like a day did... but I was in the hospital for a WEEK... with absolutely nothing to do but play Baldur's Gate (no internet) and I STILL haven't finished it yet.
Maybe I didn't necessarily have to go through Cloakwood or something?
Maybe if I had went straight to Baldur's gate the game would be over by now?
I don't know... but I'm in the Cloakwood mines now. There isn't anywhere else to go on the map (at least nowhere else interesting.) So I would imagine all the BIG STUFF is going to go down in Baldur's Gate (once I'm done with the mine.)
I also didn't know you could export your character from BG into BG2... that's pretty damned cool. Although my character is kind of a chump and I'd rather make somebody a little tougher this time around. (He's a Fighter/Mage with like 19 HP and 13 strength... and not that many damned spells but he's one HELL of an archer.)
I should be joining you by the weekend Steve.
