on another note, doesnt the 4870 out perform this videocard? Why do you not just go with the 4870?

I would consider this card better then a 4870 in performance but two cards glued together arnt for everyone

Yea?! I read acouple reviews on the 4870 beating it in performance......... If this is the case I would get this videocard rather then the 4870 for my build...
I went with Tigerdirect and live.com 10% cash back!!!
THIS IS SUCH A SWEET DEAL!!!
$293.13 shipped
- $45 MIR
- 10% (279.99 or 293.13 I dunno = 27.99 or 29.31)
= either $220.14 or $218.82 (someone let me know if live.com gives on the TOTAL price or the price of the product alone)
WHAT A DEAL!!!
Now I gotta find a NOT SO EXPENSIVE water block for this, but not rushing into that.
hmmm... having 2nd thoughts. i hope this doesn't have the STUTTER problem.
the games i plan to play are:
TEAM FORTRESS 2
CALL OF DUTY 4 (still have to try this game out)
and MAYBE crysis, but never tried it.
can anyone comment? the 9800gx2 will be costing me about $220.
I do run high AA with Team Fortress 2.
I play all of my games at 1920x1080.

From what I hear, at High Resolution and AA the 4870 is better
I just went with the 4870 just because of the pure power draw of the GX2,

Wowzers!
i like my 9800gx2, 285 from the egg a couple weeks ago. onyl cuz i wanted to play with one of these "double cards"
having had gt g92 sli and gts g92 sli and 4850 x-fire on x38, i can say this card is awesome for under 300, its better in some things than my 4850 x-fire was. Excellent bang for the buck, no issues, the vista 64 drivers are great. I pulled the 2 piece shroud off which was very simple and it reduced my temps about 7c.

Uhh, guys, this thing spanks the 4870, and regarding the power draw, the 4870 uses almost as much. Absolute steal at this price.

The GTX280 is faster than the 4870 in many things, and the 9800GX2 beats the GTX280 almost across the board. IMO, the only advantage to going with the 4870 is that upgrading later to crossfire by adding a second will provide a nice boost, whereas quad SLI with a pair of 9800GX2's doesn't do as well.
For ~ $220 this is an absolute steal! Best bang for the buck no question about it.

live.com does not factor in rebates, so you should get 10% of the full price. However, it doesn't give you 10% on shipping, only the products.

Thank you SO MUCH for that post. You just made me feel so much better, no joke. Do you play TF2? That's the main game I care about. I don't want the STUTTER problem is my main concern.

Thanks for the info. Now... how the heck do I find out the status of my live.com cash back? It only asked for my email. It never asked for a PASSWORD or anything, and I never got an email afterwards. ??? I'm not trusting it...

No problemo :) With newegg purchases, the email address is all you need to get the live.com cash back credit. It'll just show up on your cash back account. You won't get an email and it will take maybe one to three days to show up.

Before I started on WoW, TF2 was my game of choice, many hours played and never a hint of lag, stutter, or anything else, maxed including AA at 1680x1050 with a GX2.

My 4850 kicked ass for Team Fortress 2, but I don't like dropping to 40-50fps once in a blue moon (which it might do) at full settings 1920x1080. I'm crazy like that.
Back when I first started multiplayer gaming in 2001, I had to buy a ti4600 b/c I needed 100fps solid with vsync enabled. My eyes have been used to that since...

If that was your only problem with the 4850 then this card should keep you covered at 60+ fps, which is all that matters on lcds. Also as mentioned earlier in the thread this is indead the best performance that you can get for this price.
So long as you can deal with the power draw and aftermarket cooling fiasco then this is the card for you

I don't care about the power... I only care for the cooling... that's my only issue. I have enough POWER to support it, for I am g0dM@n let's not forget.... okay, that sounded a bit big-headed.

If you are going to leave it stock do yourself a favor and remove the sheild they put on it. Temps drop something like 10 degrees C.

A dual-slot card with a single-piece bracket is rather well supported by the case by the screw in the lower slot, so I doubt it actually puts too much weight on the board.

I'm only assuming it's possible. I don't know what else is attached, but I feel like it's gotta be detachable, especially for maintenance if someone RMAed a card.

Well I would like to chime in as I bought a XLR8 9800Gx2 about 3 months ago on sale for 349.99. Yeah it sucks that they are not 270 range but whatever I couldn't be happier. Mine is overclocker to 2200 mem 1800 shaders linked with 734mhz. Its smokes. Only thing I would say is these cards run hotter then hell so make sure to get a onboard utility like rivatuner or something at set a gaming profile to crack the fan up. Mine went from 70c under load to 58c under load which is a lot better for me. EVEN if your not overclocking (unless your a noise freak : P) I would suggest keeping it a little cooler then the stock fans temp sensor wants it.
You would be nuts not to jump on this deal. The 4780x2 (550~ us dollars) is the only thing ranked above the 280 (400~US) and the Gx2 (270-400US depending on rebates and sales) on the 3dmarks vantange (most will tell you the Gx2 will out do the 280 but the 280 is a single card and uses less room).
PS there sold out : (, but I got the last of there Acer 22in wide screen monitors for under 200 dollars!

Also, tigerdirect still has a 10% off if you use live.com cashback :) Maybe another deal will pop up.

I should be getting mine tomorrow I think, but I start class on Thurs, so God knows when I'll get to playing with this. :(
