800 MHZ ram sticks now run at 500 mhz in new mobo

I had in my old mother board that supported 500,600,800 mhz of ram, it currently has 3gb of 800mhz ram. Now i upgraded my MOBO to an Asus M2N sli deluxe and i see using Nvidia monitor that my ddr2 ram that i used in my old MOBO running at 800 is now running at 500. Why is that, when i tried to chenge the speed in the mother mobo to 800 the system wouldn't boot at all i would get a black screen, so i had to reset CMOS. What should i do if i want to take advantage of my ram sticks potential and run at 800. I will try and get a screen from CPUZ to provide all the info necessary to you guys. Thanks

You need to set speed, timings and voltage.

can you elaborate a little more on that. I need to reset the current timing settings and voltages to something different to get the ram to 800 mhz? Would that be overclocking the ram.

You probably are running auto settings in bios, depending on cpu and memory in auto mode it might select lowest available setting. Memory usually has few profiles and if left in auto it picks whatever it thinks is stable. You memory should have on a sticker voltage rating and timings.
Use cpuz to determine if system is actually running memory at rated speed. You would look under "memory" tab, and if you have pc6400 it should say next to frequency 400mhz.

thanks a lot, i got it i will do what you suggested and take a look at some specs on the ram sticks themselves to see but i do beleive that the auto settings are running the lowest possible.. thanks

i feel stupid.. i made my bro a computer and gave him some of my ram sticks and didn't realize that the ones i was left were pc4200 so my 500 mhz are correct.. sorry and thanks alot. There isn't one issue i have that you guys aren't able to resolve.. Thanks again
