I bought two in SLI but because of mobo problems, I'm only using one until I get an RMA.

Here's the setup:
E8400 (no OC), eVGA 750i FTW, 8GB DDR2 6400, BFG GTX 280 (no OC)

With this setup and everything at stock speeds, I'm able to run 1680x1050, EVERYTHING at Very High, and 4x AA for most of the game. During the most intense parts of the game I turned AA down to 2x to keep everything perfectly smooth, but it was still playable at 4x.

That's just impressive...

The greatest thing about this card is that the MIN frame rate is especially good. I've heard that the GX2 does well in Crysis but has problems with stuttering - this card doesn't do that.

And the funny thing is that this card only gives me 14,000 3DMark06, which just goes to show that benchmarks should not be the only deciding factor for making a purchase.

Thanks!

Could you try Crysis with 1920x1200with the same exact settings?

I am alomost sold on stepping up fromt he 9800gx2. It is a great card but I think the effective 512 ram hurts it in Crysis @ higher res.

Sorry mate, I can't help you there - my monitor only goes up to 1680x1050 (22") but from the way the gameplay feels at my resolution though, a single GTX 280 could have some trouble running 4x AA at higher res. 2x AA should be fine.

I've found though, that overclocking helps with AA a lot and I'm on stock CPU speeds here. Maybe with a mild overclock, the GTX 280 could do 1920x1200 at those settings.

yep the GTX280 is pretty impressive, more so then I expected from some of the initial reviews. Your SLI setup will really smoke, though now you'll have a good excuse to buy a new monitor to run 1920x1200+ :D

Hah, you're right... installed UT3 and I was actually impressed by the built in PhysX support - the game ran much smoother than with my 8800GTX SLI setup (which ran real smooth anyway). It seems like all the flags/clothes/other crap is animated better.

BTW anyone know how to enable AA in UT3?

I did (set it to enhance game graphics) and its not really making a difference... Maybe I need to do override?

Either way, UT3 maxed out with 4x AA and 16x AF runs smooth like butter with just one of these beasts!
As some guy put it, this card destroys everything you throw at it and kindly asks for more.

set it to override any application setting.. that should force the AA.. i'm not sure how the enhance option works but i always use override for games that don't naturally have AA
