So far this is what I'm thinking about before I order the parts.

MOBO- 750i FTW
RAM- OCZ 4GB 1333 OC
GPU- 280 GTX
CPU- E8600
HDD 2x WD raptors 150GB

I want to overclock the cpu over 4 ghz, Also want to OC the RAM and CPU to there max. I will be water cooling this system. Will I be getting the most OC bang for my buck with this build or is there a better setup around the same price? I will be gaming most of the time and would like to stay as close to $1k as possable.

Also with the GPU would it be smarter to buy 2 9800 GTX+ then a single 280 gtx?

if your not stuck on sli id say get an intel chipset board, they seem to oc better than the nividias.i have the biostar tpower i45 i am very happy with. if you plan to crossifire look into an x48 board instead. hope this helps. if your stuck on sli then im not sure to tell you the truth as i have no personal experience with nividia chipsets.

Thanks automiketic, I'm not set with sli as long as crossfire can get me a better OC and higher fps on crysis for less money.

im not sure on all the pricing what works out better as i dont do all the gaming. but i hear that the rampage is the best board for both xfire and ocing. its a bit pricy but by what i hear its worth it.

thats a pretty sick system. it should run everything pretty easily, though crysis will be a bit stressful at higher resolutions.

yeah its going to be running on my 50" LCD @ 1920 by 1080 res so i need a system that can get good fps on that res

Asus P5Q-pro or P5Q-E
bypass the GTX280 and spend a touch more for the 4870x2 or wait for the 4850x2 board.

now if you see here, cysis numbers the res that would be close to your 1080p is 1920x1200

as you can see the ATI 4870 is only 2 fps behind the GTX280. since 1080p is slightly lower then 1920x1200 expect a bit more fps then what is being shown.

then as you can see here the 4870x2 is 55FPS faster then the GTX280.

now using newegg the GTX280 is currently the cheapest from BFG(BFG rocks BTW) $419 out of pocket but has a $30 mir.

then consider the ATI 4870 which is only 2fps slower then the GTX280. its only going to set you back $270 out of pocket then has a $20mir

now if your willing to spend the money on the GTX280 then you might as well bump that up for the ATI 4870x2. cost out of pocket is $549 with no MIR.

now is when you choose is the higher cost of the X2 worth the extra 55fps? Can you live with 60fps or slightly higher in cyrsis. with the ATI 4870 for what is half the cost of the GTX280 with near same fps. If it were me and i was spending that kind of money on a GPU the X2 would be my choice.
