View Full Version : Should I worry about this drive

As some know, I have a problem with one of my drives reporting a smart event, but never having a problem with the drive itself. I just ran every test possible on this drive and no error is reported, also if I redo my raid, it doesn't report an error anymore. I think it's just a glitch somewhere, should I worry about it

I would backup the data immediately. Don't trust the disk as there's a good chance it's going to fail soon.

That's what people tell me, but for 3 months it hasn't acted up. and like I said it only happens at start up when my motherboard is telling me of my SMART status, otherwise any other program says it's fine
I even did seatools to check it, and no problems. are there any other ways of checking

That is weird. I guess if everything but the BIOS says it's ok it could be a BIOS bug. Keep backups just in case.

UPdate the motherboard BIOS.
If you have access to another PC. Check to see if it gives you a SMART error with that same HDD. If so, then I'd replace the HDD eventually. Also run a hardware diagnostic on it, too.

If you haven't actually lost any data yet, don't really worry about it. You can run all the tests you want, it might fail one day it might not... technically it is a reality with any hard drive out there. You could have a hard drive near failure that runs flawlessly for the next 2 years or vice versa.
My suggestion, just make regular backups of it, and if it's truly a worry get rid of it. Unless its a super huge hard drive, drives are dirt cheap now adays. Heck you can find tons of them on OC forums for very cheap.
That's my 2 cents...
