Shoe string LAN box

I'm tossing around the idea of building like the title says a LAN box on a shoe string budget. I need any and all input.

How shoe string budget are we talking ? 500 dollar 1000 bux , everyone has different shoe strings , budget to me is 500 .
psu go modular
cpu go mid road
max out mem slots
doesnt need the most killer fps , thats what your main is for
I guess the key would be onboard everything you can , keeps it small and cheap
