Can you install vista on a sata drive now when it is a new build? Probaly a stupid question. Last time I built a computer was when sata first came out and you had to install your os on a ide then install the sata then install the os.

yes, vista installs fine on a sata drive. so does windows xp. i've never heard of having to install on ide then sata...

maybe you needed some drivers with windows xp on a sata drive. vista has a good majority of sata drivers.

Not a stupid question and the answer is definitely yes. You won't have to do anything for Vista to recognize the drive.

You have to use F6 with the drivers on a floppy in XP if you are running in true sata mode. (Not emulate IDE in sata)

Do not have to do it with Vista thoguh. in fact I do not need to install drivers for RAID ether. Although I imagine that some will require it, fortunately you are not limited to floppies anymore but can use USB drives, CDs, DVDs or HDDs :)

that was the one thing i was most impressed with vista was that i didn't need to install my raid drivers. i was shocked :) i haven't used vista in a while, but it was definitely a plus. one less headache. i hated needing a floppy drive for drivers.

so there is no need to install a floppy anymore? man I got about 300 of them. Not talking about disk, talking about floppy drives.

nope, you can install drivers from a cd, usb drive, etc...
