Some of these prices look pretty good, http://www.evga.com/articles/428.asp, and as far as I can tell this is new stock.

Ooooh check out the Ultra for $200... Now that was a GREAT card.
How do you buy them for that price? I'm not seeing any way to do that.
Ok, that is weird, the one I was trying to get doesn't have a 'buy now' button. Others do. Must be out of stock.

the 8800GTS 512MB, $149.99, could easily to high 5k ppd. mine is doing 5924ppd on regular 5506(etc.) WU. on 5504, it's doing 6+k. or if you can, for $20 more, 9800GTX, it will give you a couple hundreds more ppd (low 6k at best imho).
imho, for folding, 2 x 8800GT 256MB for $179.98 would be the best bang for buck on that list! instance 9k+ ppd and will use 'bout the same power as the 9800GTX!

I may be wrong, But I am pretty sure you do not need an SLi mobo for folding multiple cards.

8800GT SSC 512mb is my opinion... But its only an opinion, and there are some on the boards that would wait till nVidia has corrected the soldering process on their cores.

didnt know they made 16x pcie not sli'd or tri'd
I know they make the pcie 4x and that has slight decrease in ppd but well worth the option if you have the cards . If your running 3 or 4 cards sure it would be nice , but I still have to justify
with the boss (gf) so I can bury the price of 1 extra vid card in the build but not 3 extra . This should put me @ 20k ppd according to Fahspy and Fahmon
i still think the best-bang-for-buck would be 2x8800gs = 9.8-10K+ (depends on OC)
and 79.99 per card.
As for 256MB GT, my GS out folded it by 200ppd, same settings. (thought 256 or 384 MB makes no difference)

You forgot to include a Charlie "article" disclaimer :rolleyes:He might not be the best source to say the least but the fact is that there was and is a design error on nVidia's part that they are trying to poo poo away.
I hope my EVGA 55nm 9800GTX+ card is a cherry and not a lemon, It runs 24/7 and only thermal cycles ~20°C every 3 hours or so between GPU2 WUs. It runs <60°C at all times and usually hits mid 50s even during the recent hot weather we had >40°C .
I won't be buying another nVidia until the questionable chips have been run out or I get an iron clad warranty for more than just one year. I usually pass down my old cards to others and I don't want to worry they will -wink- out soon after.

I always seam to fail. I have not purchased a nvidia card in decades and this being my first nvidia purchase and now you tell me this :)
Im hoping evga's lifetime warranty covers defects associated with manufacturer faulty designs

8800GT SSC 512mb is my opinion... But its only an opinion
well the reason I chose this card was it had the highest shader stock of 1800, so am planning on pushing that to hopefully 2000+ , as my GS's do 1905 all day long

EVGA's warranty will cover basically any failure of the card other than physical damage or shorting do to water leaks. They even cover their products if you overclock them, as long as you haven't physically modded the card or flashed to an unapproved bios. Also modding does not mean you can't install aftermarket coolers, you can, you just have to replace the aftermarket cooler with the stock cooler before you return the product for RMA.
Just keep in mind that if your EVGA product is eligible for a lifetime warranty you have to register it within 30 days of purchase. Otherwise you only have a one year warranty. Also when you register your product you should consider purchasing an EAR plan for it. I've purchased a premium EAR plan for the last six EVGA products I've purchased. What that means is that if the product ever fails I can request an RMA and EVGA will cross ship a replacement to me via UPS ground at not charge. From what I've heard it usually takes them two or three days to get the replacement shipped. But the wonderful part for me is that included with that replacement I will receive a pre-paid shipping label so that I can return the defective card back to them at no cost to me. The premium plan costs $7.99 if you purchase it when you register your product, or $14.99 if you purchase it later. You also have to buy a new EAR for your replacement if you want one for it, but to me it's still worth it. The last time I shipped a card back to EVGA it cost me $17 for shipping and insurance.

but being a recipient of a card that needed to be RMA'd and the person I bought it from had that , so by the time I sent it to him , he had already put in the
request ,so after I sent the card to original owner , the new card was 1 day out from being at his house ,
so bing bam boom the whole RMA process only took 1 week
so I am going to seriously concider this an option

LOL... :D They obviously did really well on this sale... all the 8800GT KO & SSC are backordered, as well as the 8800GTS 512s.
No big deal... I really want to cram three GPUs into my 780i rig... but I can wait. Just paid the car insurance... just bought a HD-PVR. I want an Xbox 360!!! :D Priorities you know... ;)
I'm really looking at those new 9800GTs with Hybrid Power... not because they have Hybrid Power though... because that's how you can tag the ones made on 55nm process. ;)

As much as I would love another card or two or three, I need four 640GB drives for my matrix array. I also want a P45 mobo and a 45nm chip for some 4GHz love next. Maybe by then, all the questionable GPU chips will have been flushed out of the channels.

I've read part one and three of the Inquirer series on the nVidia chips being defective and they're saying there aren't any good chips, they are all defective. But I've also read how they are saying they are failing.
The problem is showing up primarily in laptops because it is being caused by the chips running through a thermal cycle of heating and cooling over and over again. Because of the way laptops are used if that is the problem it would explain why they are seeing it first, because they are turned on and off multiple times a day.
The thing is if you're buying the nVidia graphics card for folding it doesn't look to me like this would be a problem. I run mine pretty much 24/7, there is no thermal cycling going on, so they shouldn't fail, at least not for that reason. Regardless, I've got a lifetime warranty on all my EVGA products and I know that once a product runs out of stock the replacement they ship out will either be as good or better than the product you send in for RMA. After my 7800gtx 512 failed for the second time EVGA sent me a 7950gx2 as a replacement. Honestly at that point I really wasn't upset that the product had failed for a second time.
They only knocks I really have with EVGA is that sometimes in order to get good customer service you have to speak with a customer service supervisor. That's understandable as I'm sure the first level of customer service is limited in what they are allowed to do. The other knock is that EVGA Europe has a pretty bad track record regarding customer service and step up. Because of this I wouldn't recommend EVGA products to anyone living in Europe.

Oh yeah... forgot to mention, I just bought those too. :D
/off topic: I swapped in 4 WD6400AAKS drives in place of my mixed bag of 4 WD3200 drives, two KS (older) and two AAKS. Write times are not good (RAID5 of course), but the read times are better than my previous array. Had to restore ~500GB worth of data from my backup drive. That took almost as long as it did to format 1.8TB. :D
