You shouldnt need crossover cables with a router. However a few modems require them to go from the modem to the router, but normally you dont want em. Just use 'straight though' cables ;)

'straight though' is that also know has Patch?

RJ-45 is Cat5. The cable that you have is fine and should work properly.

Unless you are connecting to a hub with an uplink port...if you're going straight to the modem this cable will work just ducky.

Yes, set it to 21 21 ..and just do the same with port 113 ..make sure you direct the port to your internal ip...the one you assigned it when you configured your network just type ipconfig in Command prompt and it will give you your internal IP ..should be something like 192.168.1.1 by default..

well, it's the routers decision not mine, I would but it's not letting me.

let's see, I've got Cat 5 cables, both straight through and crossed over. I've tried both going from modem to router, and I'm guessing that I'm gonna wanna be using the straight through because that one at least lets the lights light up on the router telling me that there is some sort of signal going between them. plus the extra one I've got is one I made myself so I trust it, I made it when the one from rogers flaked out on me, at least I think I did, cuz when I made my own and replaxed it it fixed my issues.

And I have been able to get into the config on mine, which, oddly enough isn't 192.168.1.1 but more along the lines of 192.168.158.1 but don't worry I've been smart enough to change my pass on that sucker.

but of course now the problem is, when I plug everything in, it won't seem to let me get anywhere or get anything done with regards to having any kind of connection to the net

so this is my beef, pardon my long rambling please, but I do get carried away when I'm slightly stressed. please help. Linksys 4 port of course.

feel free to pm me, but others who are having my issues might want the info

Well the Best way i can help you is that i hade the same problem i 1st read the Manual and here are my sethings

Setup page:

Hostname: Mi6warez.no-ip.com <--- i use this one becoes it was a DNS of my main IP
Domain Name: Mi6warez.com <---- no reason just wanted to trie it out

Devise ip: 192.168.1.1 <-- u can change that to any number but all the other computers will have to be a number after.

Obtain an IP Address Automatically <--- is on
Specify an IP Address <--- its off but i still filled in the INFO

Login <--- Off becoes thats for ADSL if your on cable it should be off

******BTW if u kno all this and you think you have it all configured propaly then i can sugest that u Right CLick My Network Places go in to Propaties and Right click on your Ethernet Card...and go into COnfigure ---> Advanced ----> Connection Type ---> set it to 10BaseT Half Duplex

i read that in the last page of the manual and it toled me that and poof it worked like a charme....
***********

All the rest should be default then on DHCP

I put it Enable DHCP server and set Starthing Ip to 192.168.1.1
and set DHCP users to 3 ( i have 2 computers on + the router )

in the Log's Tap
i just turned it off

In the Advanced Tap
Filter <-- left default
Fowarding <--- forwarted the port to the pc like on my server pc i forwared port 80, 21, 53, 27015<--CS server =p

In DYNAMIC ROUTING
Working Mode I set to Gatway
Dynamic Routing:
TX: RIP 2
RX: Off
**** not sure why but thats the only sethings that work .... i just mest around with it *************

Static ROuthing..... Default
DMZ HOST.... i set it to my server PC or any PC u want to expose to the Net

Mac Address <--- i set it to my MAin PC you can find out your Mac in WIn2k by typing IPCONFIG in the Start RUn menu

and after this is should work

also remeber to save on eatch page and not after your done =)

i hope this helped

For all of those who may have aquired a linksys from a friend a relative, ANYone who's had it for a little bit but didn't need it so they gave it to you, please, heed my advice and avoid unneccessary stalling and pitfalls.

Take the smart road.
if you do like I did, you'll end up having no end of difficulty setting this thing up. But if you're smart, you'll get the latest release of the firmware upgrade from the site, and install. And you'll be up and running in no time flat.

or you can sit around with a dysfunctional router for 2 weeks trying to figure it out

1+1=2 I think, but sometimes I come out one short
