So I hear a 4870 X2 - XOC³ H2O edition will be coming out soon but with a Koolance block attached to it, I prefer DangerDen. It's also possible that they'll make just a normal XOC Black edition with air cooling. In either case, the clocks will be set to 800MHz but unlocked for up to 990MHz!
I have some questions;
Is it worth waiting for or should I just get an MSI version that's OC'd to 770MHz and push that as far as it will go after putting a DD block on it?
And do you think, if they come out with an air cooled version, would it be reference design so a DD block could fit it?

In my experience it is usual cheaper to get a card then get an aftermarket cooler.

I believe the MSI version is clocked at 780MHz, but as stated above, it will be cheaper to buy any air cooled version and install your own cooler sans warranty.

There is no point in getting one if they're super expensive. Either wait for the price to drop down extremely far or for the best bang for the buck get a vanilla card and get aftermarket cooling. Much cheaper almost everytime.

That MSI one is the same price as the others but if I can easily OC a normal 4870X2 to 800MHz (which is the max that the stock BIOS will let you I believe) Then I'll go with a Diamond and hope that a BIOS update comes out that lets me tweak the voltages.

The BIOS doesn't prevent you from overclocking beyond 800MHz. I have a Sapphire 4870x2 that will run at 870MHz. All you need is AMD GPU Tool.

But what keeps it from artifacting at a high OC is raising the voltages and the BIOS does prevent you from doing that. Right?

Only memory voltages are locked in BIOS, I think.

Sounds like a nice card, I'll be flashing my Sapphires with the XOC BIOS as soon as it's availabale.

My 4870x2 will do 870MHz, I really can't see why anyone would need to go any higher unless you're trying to set a benchmark world record. The card is almost CPU limited even at the default clock speed.

Yeah I wish I was rich... Hope I get a good paying job after Uni, atm I only have £3,000 in my bank (Possibly for Nehalem upgrade not too sure as of yet) and have to save it all up myself. I can't say it is that bad, I am only 17 and still in full time education.

I'm 23 and I make $5,800 a month... $3,900 after taxes :( but I got to where I am by getting into the IT industry early, at your age really, and bouncing to a new job every 1 and 1/2 years. No, i didn't do college but in the IT industry, at least here, it doesn't matter. I'll get that when I start working for the government, cause they'll pay for it completely.

Dark you are lucky, if you earned the equivalent of $5800 here you would be taxed $5799 of it so you are left with $1 to spend on council tax, high fuel prices and VAT.

Thats why I hope Obama doesn't get elected cause then instead of being taxed 33% I'll be taxed 45% all to give people who want free hand outs, more free hand outs...
