My sister gave me an old Toshiba Tecra S1 laptop that she got a year and half ago from her former employment and sat in her closet until two weeks ago. After running a harddrive diagnostics, upgradings, etc., suprisingly it is very stable considering all the use it received with mutiple user accounts.

Right now it only has 512 megs of PC2100 and I can upgrade to a full 2 gigs. It can take both PC2100 DDR 266 or PC2700 DDR 333. According to Kingston's Memory Configuration information that though PC2700 can be installed (Crucial confirms this) it will run at DDR266 speeds regardless.

To quote Kingston, "266 and 333 are both supported for this system, and can be mixed, but will only run at 266MHz no matter what is installed."

So, how much of a difference is there between these two memories? Basically I can get 2 gigs of both from Kingston at the same price. I have the latest and last BIOS dating from Spring 2005 but I don't know if it tweaked to the point that PC2700 can run at its designed speed.

Thanks.
