My elelmentary school wants to upgrade from hubs top switches. to uplink the hubs, they use bnc. my question is, the switches we're loooking at dont have a bnc uplink. if you "dasiy chain" the switches, is it just as effecient as using bnc between them, and is if you daisy chain 2 16port swithces, do you get the same bandwith overall as 1 32 port switch?
-thx
Well, first of all. BNC is slow. SO using crossover cables between the switches would be much faster. THe more ports to the swotch the better. Imagine 16 people trying to access machines accros that 1 crossover cable. Its gonna get congested. But it won't if they are all on the same switch.

Well BNC only has a maximum tranfer rate of 10Mbps so using a crossover cable on the uplink port on each hub is a lot faster if the rest of the network is at 100mbps!! ;)
Use switches instead of hubs, they're even faster!! ;)
