Gentleman,

When in doubt, turn to the message boards. Here goes. I put together a new XP1700 on a Dragon+ MB, DDR2700 memory, 350 watt AMD approved power supply. ATI Radeon video card. I have since taken off all of the peripherals. To start, I get 3 short beeps if I cold start (sometimes 4), 2 beeps if I hit the reset button, and 1 beep if I restart through WIN XP start menu. It crashed with the blue screen 4 times during initial loadong of windows. BTY I have nothing overclocked yet. Once getting XP loaded it ran ok for a couple of minutes and then reset itself. Now I can get anywhere from immediate crash or restart to about 8 minutes of use before it restarts or crashes. I do sometimes get what appear to be memory errors. IE will crash and shut itself down. I have tried 3 video cards one even being a PCI card to rule out AGP. Different HD. The only thing I have left is the memory, power supply or MB. Does anyone know if I may be having an issue with the DDR2700 with this MB? Or does it sound like a power supply issue? I am at a loss here. I am also running the newest BIOS. I am thinking about going down to FRY's to get new stick of DDR2100, power supply and another MB to rule those out now. Any other suggestions would surely be appreciated.

Its your memory. Try some PC2400 or PC2100 and I bet it'll work fine.

KaHNZa, Thanks. I am gonna go grab a new stick on lunch. I'll let ya know how it goes. I was told that I would not have a problem with the 2700. Is this MB not support it or is it just the stick that I have? My knowledge is lacking in the DDR area.

here's the skinny. after talking to soyo, they seemed to think that it may have been a corrupted install. suggested that i try reinstalling windows. also pointed that the problem may be the cpu. tech said that i should not have any problems with the 2700 memory on this board. so, i tried reinstalling win 2000 instead. got the same thing. after it had copied all of the files and rebooted i got a blue screen that read "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL address 8042ca04 base at 804000000 datestamp 384d9617 - ntoskrnl.exe
beginning dump of physical memory. physical memory dump completed. contact your system admin or tech support" soyo also stated that i may want to try and turn of the onboard internal and external cache. if it is stable then it is a bad cpu. any takes on any of this. i hate to go buy another stick of ram if that is not the problem. anyone. please!!!!:burn:

Out of curiosity, what brand PC2700 is this? What bios are you using?

Check the Event Viewer to see if it is showing any problems.

Check your voltages and try running just the mobo/CPU/RAM/Vcard/PSU

If that fails try all the components in different rigs. Double check your BIOS settings (maybe even run the 2700 as 2100?)

I want to thank everyone here for their valuble insight. It is now confirmed that it was the memory. I put in a stick of 256 meg 2100. Runs stellar. Now I have to determine if the other stick was bad or if my MB doesn't like it. I am leaning toward the bad side with all of my research telling me that I should not have a problem running OCZ 2700 in this thing. I will keep you all posted.

I just love these venders that pass the buck,to your next piece of hardware.Rather than the "possibility",that it just might be there product acting acting screwy.

I don't see why the RAM wouldn't work. It should work at 2100 OK, unless it is parity or ECC RAM.
