I'm assuming you want to be able to make a clone image of your current hard drive in order to copy to a newer, larger HD. Is that right? If you are just upgrading the hard drive you should be fine with a program like DriveXML (http://swik.net/drivexml) (which is free for home use). However, if you are changing motherboards, you may run into problems with your OS not booting if it is a different chipset. In which case you would need to do a repair install or completely reinstall.
As for the raid issue. I'm not totally sure, I think you can, but you will not have the full capacity of the larger drive. I'm sure others will chime in soon.
