SLI with older Card?

I just built a new system and have installed a BFG 8800GT. I only planned on running the one card for now and wasn't really planning on going to SLI until I was unable to play the new games anymore.

I just had a thought. I have a BFG 7800GT card in my old computer which I donated to the wife and it has onboard video as well so would it be benifical to remove the 7800GT from that and run it in SLI with my 8800GT or is the 7800GT going to slow the other card down and not be worth it?

you can't run 2 different gen cards in SLi
they have to be from the same gpu core family
