I personally think that a poll would be a good idea, with the options that Cy posted.

1) Preselected, equally balanced teams. (Basher did an excellent job with the current race in progress. Teams started out equally, and had to assert tallents and resources to gain advantage over the other teams.)

2) A draft system. (This would be a draft situation. Members would enter a pool, Basher could supply the stats, and each team captain would use strategy to build a team. Each team would have a max member limit.)

3) Assign Team Captains and the participants choose their team. (This would be in the true tradition of Seti@home. May be a bit unfair, especially if 1 team got all the top crunchers. Again this solution would need a max member limit.)

With any of these solutions, Basher would still be race director as he was with the current race.

I voted for preselected equal teams. This last race was run this way and yet the three teams are finishing with quite different numbers posted. :) Just shows what will happen when teams have to really work for an advantage!

I also think that Basher made a good work with the first race. It has had excitment and turnbacks.....and in the end TEAM TC will win (hopefully)

As stated previously I feel personally it is like racing four stock civics with four drivers cloned the same. The only way the outcome changes is simply if you run into PC Problems, it's really not provided that little bit of incentive to push your rigs a little more. Again just my point of view

NFL draft style...makes captians think and do research. Plus lay out a plan of attack. But I like bashers way too. Quick question if we draft it, then is there going to be trades n such.

Got to go with the Draft.

How about free agency?

How many WU's is this race to?

Could call it the Basher 5000. First team to 5000 wins the Basher Cup

Maybe free agency rules could apply too? Hmm this would be interesting anyone want to draw up a guideline on this, x producer is up for free agency, y team offers up two hot producers to nab x producer LOL That would add some excitement to it to.

Personally I don't see that it matters a whole lot how you pick the teams. Generally speaking everybody here has consistent output unless he or she upgrades or runs into trouble. The only variables left are a little tweaking, or devoting more time to the client, etc. That being said, how is their to be much strategy in picking teammates? You can look at their daily output and that's about it. Once you've got a team the only strategy is either tweak or get people to add more systems. Makes no difference how you arrived at the final cut, the job is the same. You can start off with a lopsided team and chances are it's going to stay that way. This isn't football. We can't train teammates to "play" better. They only way to "play" significantly better is to upgrade or add on. A little bit of tweaking is not going to overcome a team with a disproportionate number of heavy hitters. That's why I think it needs to start off fairly even. The incentive is there to squeeze every last minute out of your farm. If it starts off with one team having a major advantage there's not any reasonable way of catching up unless you start forking out serious cash, and I don't think that's what this is about - unless you all want to start a race to see which team can spend more on upgrades...

i like the idea of a draft, free agency, trades...etc. it is just more fun. it does not matter who wins...we dont have prizes, or anything on the line, but i do have one suggestion.

this is kind of like "fantasy seti" in stead of having 2 or 3 big teams...what if we had more, but smaller teams (may have to split up some farms...) then we could have a round robin type tournement, where team A is playing team C for the week, and Team D is playing team B....etc. if we crunch for a week, and who ever wins that week gets a 1 in the W column and the losing team gets an L. there could be a margin to decide ties. then the top teams could have a sort of playoff and have a tree and everything, until we get to the SETIBOWL. That way, if a team has an "injury" or someone manages to oc 50 more mhz, it can make a difference. if we do split up the farms some, we can have several balanced, but unique teams. this is only a suggestion, but i do think that if we advertise it on the rest of the board like "Come Play Fantasy Seti!!" and get new people involved, then it could work. of course if you guys hate it....i did not suggest this but heard it from someone over at the pond :)

i think its best to start with fairly equal teams
as TC put it,either way its not going to be a fair competiton

personally id like to see a couple of heavy hitters in a team
with lots of smaller output crucnhers (like me! :D ) opposing them
would be nice to actually "get some back" from the big boys

I like the way this race has went, but I would like to participate in any race structure out there. This nfl thing might be fun, like someone stated we aren't getting prizes, hell let's try them all! ;)
