Hello
Im looking to upgrade, somtime in middle of October for the games rush (farcry 2) I have a 8800gtx and a q6600 but im going to upgrade to dual gtx 280, Do I buy now or wait til October, will they be a lot cheaper?

Im getting a 3008wfp dell monitor to run at 2560 resolution, also a qx9770. Would dual gtx280 be okay or the new ATI 4870X2 are the best ones to get?
Also, what sort of PSU should I be looking at? I have a corsair 620W atm

many thanks

First off you'll need atleast a 1kw psu to handle those. I would recommend dual 280gtx's as they should do much better than a single 4870x2. As far as waiting, you can wait....but i don't forsee the prices dropping to bad in the next few weeks.

I ran dual GTX280s and a Q6600 with a Corsair 750 watt, never had a problem. Max power draw I saw (from the wall socket) was 670 watts. A kilowatt couldn't hurt, I now have a 1.2KW, which is overkill. but who knows, might add a third card eventually, but I would say 750-800Watts would be about the minimum.

I don't see prices dropping until the 280b's come out, but who knows how much drop that is going to be, may be marginal.

I'm in the same boat as you Mark. Just sitting on my tail waiting for the 280b to hit stores.

I already have 2 of them, but i'm going to get 2 280b's when they come out to do some side by side benchies :)

some sources say prices on the 280b's will be higher than the current 280's, instead of replacing them. I don't know if that'll happen, but either way you're more than fine with 2x 280's and a qx9770. Even at 2560 res, you won't notice a difference between the current ones and the newer ones, and the price isn't guaranteed to drop; it could likely just stay about the same, while the new b series may be released at higher prices so it's kind of a 'gamble' to wait.

The b models will run cooler, and should overclock higher. I agree that they'll be priced more expensive their the original GTX280, but I think they'll only stay more expensive until stores can clear out all their old inventory. If they were cheaper from the get-go, stores would be stuck with the old 65nm die models :p
