I have a 68.51 CFM Delta 80MM and wondered if it would work better sucking or blowing?

I thought they should blow, but nihili says it should suck. I have the MCX462 and that is supposed to blow. Try both ways and see what better temps you get.

I agree, try both ways, usually there's a 1-2C difference but when it was a PEP66 or a ......(can't remember which one it was right now) anyway its a slot 1 cooler, its usually better to let it suck (but it doesn't have to be better), I have a PEP66 on a slocket and when I would let the fan blow my northbridge would get hot tho my CPU temps are 1C lower.

You really need to try it, cuz it also has to do with the airflow inside your case.

I am going to bet with that monster fan that blowing would be much better simply because the deltas create great airflow. But like they said, try it both ways.

I think it may work better blowing air onto the heatsink, but Alpha has been weird in the past as people with the Alpha PEPT66 had better performance with their fan sucking.

The Alpha 8045 was designed to suck, according to their site, but try it both ways if you want and run it the way that cools the best.:D One thing that I've read though is that if you have it blowing into the heatsink, then it is best to remove the shroud off the top of the heatsink as it traps the air inside the heatsink somewhat and the temps will definitely be higher. Be sure to post your results so other people (like me;) ) that have the 8045 can benifit from your experimentation on it.

Soon as I cut the hole for the 120mm that will sit on top of the CPU/HSF, I'm going to give this a try with my 8045.

Delta blowing, with 120 as an intake. then try Delta sucking and 120 as an exhaust. Hmm wonder what would happen if I did opposites :D

That is how I'm running my T-bird box, with the 120 mounted on the side of the case over the cpu area. I'm presently running the delta sucking and the panaflo as an exhaust. I just never got around to trying it the other way.

Did you notice a big drop in temps with the exhaust fan right on top?

I tested mine out and found that I got noticeably higher airflow with the fan sucking off the heatsink. I haven't gotten the chance to do temperature tests though.

I never ran it with this 8045 and no 120 fan on the case because I had already modded the case when I was running my MC462 on the board. I know that it keeps the case temp down because the hot air coming off the heatsink is immediately vented outside the case like this. I'm just curious if the 8045 will run cooler with my delta fan blowing in and the 120 panaflo blowing into the case, supercharging the delta, just like I used to run it with the MC462.

Well the 8045 was designed with a fan pulling the air off of it. But If you don't have enough cool air going thru your system in the right flow pattern that will aid in this configuration then it might not turn out too well. Configuration would be a deciding facor so as what type of fan. The Delta that you have probably works at its best flowing air towards the HS though.

Try this if you have good airflow thru your case;

120mm 131CFM pulling air off the HS

Wow thanks for the reply's. I have mega air flow through my case (see my sig) so that's not a problem, I just though why is the 8045 the only HSF to benefit like this? Wouldn't it be less effective as theres not much cool air being blown through.....as well as a straining fan....

However I suppose with good airflow (like mine! see HERE (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52457)) it would be exchausting all the hot air instead of re-circulating it.

Thanks for your helps guys i'll certainly try it out and see what happens when the 2200+'s are out.

Regarding the 120MM fan (great idea with the Coke bottle!!!) wouldn't that be worse as because of its size there would be less pressure and being further away from the HSF cause problems???

Cheers:beer:

generally blow is better, but some heatsinks like old alphas have very lage skirts making the fan pull air from right at the bottem, when the fan is pulling air from the heatsink it is also abit quieter - wern't you going to get 80CFM delta?

$50 and no connector on it.

Hi All

I have the Alpha 8045 on an Asus A7V266-E I have tried both sucking & blowing but Alpha says suck.

Yes sucking is best for my Rig. I have also a 80mm Y.S.Tech low noise fan on the Alpha (3000rpm) nice & quiet. This coupled with an Antec case gives me a temp. of 46C under full load. This set up is remarkably quiet. (Who needs water cooloing) Sorry Guys could`nt resit that.

If the Ferrari is the size of my PC and it's in my closet... well, it's pretty quiet. :) I've got the fan on my Alpha sucking. Had it blowing once to see but the temp went up so I switched it back. Mines at 36/28 idle and 39/28 under load. :D

it is the tuscan S 4 litre

and looks alot nice, (they also race 'em)

F1 cars sound so loud its beautiful.

However nothing beats or even comes close to a Ferrari sound, TVR's are nice but nothing comes close to that Ferrari whine...

Theres a 800BHP TVR out does 220 MPH.

Loud but sounds rough. But its BRITISH and we can AT LAST BE PROUD of our own engineering.

i noticed when getting the TVR image that there is a tuscan R - 450BPH at 8000RPM! 200MPH +

Post a pic.

Remeber the fastest Roadcar in the world????? The Mclaren F1 Roadcar???

Does 10'000RPM at 261MPH.

Also comes with a tool kit thats so incredible and diamond cut its worth about £15'000,
also you have your own engineer who constantly monitors the car so if anything even starts to show wrong (tyres flat, worn, puncture, or even fire!!! lol) he will talk to you on the radio!!!!

Also if you break down they will send a personal HELICOPTER out to pick you up and have the car repaired at THEIR specialist centre.

NOW THATS SERVICE.

For about £500'000 for the car though and an additional £15'000 a year for the service.....

look at the tail pipes and lower spoiler!

they have stopped making the Maclaren F1, not many people bought em,

you forgot to mention the gold plated engine compartment

who needs a chopper when you can get a saab and free AA cover (or is it RAC?)

I'm a fan of ferrari's my self, the original super car. Nothing beats the sound of a 275GTO V12 6.0L Quad Cam :)

Although right now, I'll put asside my respect for Aston and TVR (ahh good ol british engineering) and bow down to the all powerful, Pagani Zonda C12-S, with its beautiful V12 Merc engine. (The new SL55 AMG beat most the supercars in a recent 200mph AutoCar test.... drool wait for the Vision SLR)

Those cars definitely look and sound great, nothing like my old Chrysler...:burn: I keep my Ferrari in my cool and quiet closet. I get more miles to the gallon that way. :)

Yeah a typeing error. But the McLaren one does 0-60Mhp so fast its amazing, he put his foot down taking it for a test drive straight out of the garage and BOOM! hit 120MPH in a blink of an eye.

Does 60 is a few secs.

WOW!!!
