View Full Version : Intel Celeron 700mhz question

First of all I would like to say I know basically nothing of celerons, the only thing I know is that there are "old" ones and "new" ones.
My friend has a Celly 700 and when he runs Wcpuid on it he gets a 66mhz system speed rating. I assume his celeron is an "old" one, he tells me he gets really crappy performance from his old video card (which runned better on my mom's pentium 3 500). Im just assuming the celly is not taking full advantage of the vid card because of the 34 mhz gap between the two fsb's.
Now my question is, are those "old" celerons overclockable and if so is there any unlocking involved?
Thanks in advance :D

Just read the sticky :o !!!
Hmm, o.k well I assume his mobo is crap, is there any unlocking involved with the chip or is it just bios and jumpers?

There's never any unlocking to be done on Intel CPUs. They're always factory-locked, and there's nothing you can do about it...it's been this way since the very early Pentium IIs. So it will all be with FSB and voltage jumpers, DIP switches, or BIOS settings.
Well...
It could be another internal conflict.
Did he try getting the lastest driver updates and all?
If the motherboard has a 75MHz FSB setting that will give him a nice overclock, probably about as much as that C-700 will go without lots of cooling mods. That old P-III had lots of cache compared to the Celeron, but the extra speed of the Celeron should make up that difference. Like Yokums says, maybe he needs a vid driver update.

Yokums?!
Nice to be noticed
Just Kidding..

He has the latest drivers for his vid card (which is an old voodoo 3 3000). O.k, I will suggest to him that he raise his fsb to 75 mhz (somehow).
Another thing comes to mind >> He cannot load Quake 3 team arena, he gets a "Cannot load opengl subsystem" message. I downloaded the big opengl update program, he ran it and still no result.
*sigh* if only he had the internet:mad:
voodoo 3 3000 cards have not had any driver releases in a long time as far as i know since they sold the company.
You can probly get that cele700 running at 100FSB with proper cooling and voltage adjustment. If you do not have any voltage adjustment in the mobo then maybe try vidpinning
also www.planetquake.com may have a download patch for the voodoo problem
Depends on which stepping that C-700 is, lots of those earlier C-700 CPUs won't overclock at 100 FSB. I have a buddy with a cC0 C-667 that won't do 100 FSB.
Sorry Yodums, I must of got in a hurry.
