Hey guys im pretty hooked on folding now but I want to get some serious points under my name and Ill need your help!

Firstly what is the highest SLI/CF combo? two 4870s ? Two 280s?

Will an OC'ed Q6600 be able to run two of these cards AND fold SMP? (this is the CPU I can afford ATM)

What would be a safe power supply to power this?

Will 2GB DDR800 be good enough?

Whats a preferred OS? 32 or 64bit?

thanks in advance!

the 4870s are catching up in ppd and are cheaper than the gtx280's.

a q6600 should be able to supply both cards and run an instance of SMP.

id recommend at least a 750w psu, corsair, antec, thermaltake, etc.

id reccomend a little more ram, ddr2 is cheap anyways, get 4gb.

64bit os is preffered.

sorry to hear about your addiction Eddy  :attn:

Welcome :attn:

To answer some questions

the q6600 is more than fine for 2 gpu and 1 SMP ( more complicated stuff will be sure to follow) I do 2 gpu and 1 smp on q6600@3ghz
vid card , best bang for your ppd was the 8800 series . I own 2 8800GS's and one GTX ,

If you got the bucks , go modular on psu , better airflow. You could check out the PSU calculator (http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp) I use this alot to find out what I want/need/search .

Oh check out the Case Modding (http://www.ocforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=175) to drill holes for extra un needed wiring .

Go for the 32 bit imo

2 gb is enuff ,may have to use divider on mem tho

hope this gives you an idea , and the hole just gets deeper

thanks for the quick response which way are the meetings? ? LOL

I was going to use 8800gs's but im running out of room so for my current apartment i only have room for one more machine at the moment so i figured i would just get two awesome GPUs that would give me higher points then the 8800s....I guess what im asking what is the difference between 8800GTs and 260's (Etc)?

Hi eddy!!! :welcome: to Team 32! New guy stocks the fridge. :)

A great place to start when looking for info is the Team 32 Folding Intro (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=574026). It has links to lots of good threads in this forum that can help you.

There you'll find links to both our ATI (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=566857) and nVidia (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=566599) benchmark threads. ;)

That is what I'm running on my work computer. Just be aware that you may have some overheating issues if you don't have it in open air. I've had to change the cooling on one of my cards just to be able to run all 4. Stock cooling wasn't enough.
