..might want to take a look at this.

Seems like our beloved Steam has at least one game that includes SecuRom with it. As far as what limits or how intrusive it is I have not a clue. Just ran across this pic from responses to an article on Shacknews about Spore.

I for one will not support any game that has hard limiting DRM included with it, and this (to me) doesnt sit well being that its coming from Steam.

Yeah, I've heard that Crysis Warhead does have some kind of DRM on it. I didn't know it would still have it through steam though, since steam itself is obviously copy protection. But thanks for the heads up.

Crysis warhead is from EA. All EA games will have securerom from now on.

I hate that crap, several times I try and open Crysis it gives me a SecRom error nad I have to retry over and over, eventually it opens...usually.

Hmm, well via steam not sure how that is exactly handled. Only thing I hope is that more people move to a steam-typeform platform, best for gamers, and best for companies imo.

Not just a steam type platform, but one big unified steam type platform. I like steam because a lot of companies use it, but if all the major companies started releasing their own it would get confusing to which game works with which platform and soon the task bar will look like Dr. Seuss ate a box of Fruitloops and coughed up an OS.

unlimited installs and up to 5 pc's

Seems liberal enough.

I ain't paying for a game with secure rom on it. If they are going to treat me like a potential criminal instead of a potential customer, screw em. I wouldn't take that from a B&M retailer, and I sure won't take it from EA.

Its a compromise. Thanks to the lovely people that are tards that scare the industry into taking a preemptive stance that might seem unwarranted to most of us. But one way or the other, the bean counters and screaming these companies and publishers need to do something to at least TRY to cut their losses due to piracy.

I am going to BB today to pick it up.

I don't care about securerom myself, no disk sounds better anyway...

Let the games begin...

you can fight it but sooner or later securom will be in most all games. Sucks but thats where the future is going whether we like it or not. Sad thing is the pirates will find a way around it eventually and it will cause probs. for the legit users...

Well, Warhead apparently is already cracked and on torrenting websites. So I guess that whole securom thing isn't going to hinder anyone but the paying customers.

Ofcourse it is. A crack is made usually right after (and sometimes before) a game is released so all Copy Protection is doing is deterring legit customers. The only pirating this is stopping is maybe the sneakernet little 12 year old Joey is running burning the occasional cd for his friends.
