Ok I did a re-format install cause I found out my IE 5.5 was really Mozilla 4.0 (My Norton ID'ed it).

So I installed almost everything now. MAKING SURE I GOT IE 5.5 from Microsoft update site. I checked my Norton again and it had changed to Mozila 4.0 AGAIN.......Please Help me!!

i dont understand, did you download and instal IE5.5 from MS and it looks and works fine, except that norton sees it as mozilla? cause if that is what you are saying, i would guess that norton is mis identifying what you have: IE 5.5

I as well don't get your story.

Is it running as IE.

If Norton is identifying it as Mozilla, but its not then just ignore it.

Go to Help> About and see if it says IE x.x

Yes Norton ID'ed it as Mozilla. So did PC Pitstop, but they say some browsers ID themselves as Mozilla as it was first......

Yes I downloaded IE 5.5 from Microsoft's update site. Sheesh:rolleyes:

I did use help. It says IE 5.5 Moziac. Which is Mozilla's base. Its just getting wrong ID'ed

Do you think your loading Mozilla by any chance?

Right click the IE icon and check its directory properties.

almost every program I have ever used to ID my browser has said Mozilla, or Mozilla-based...I've always ran IE...just a case of mistaken identity....don't sweat it

If I am not mistaken ( and I probably am :D ) both internet explorer and netscape navigator are based on NCSA Mosaic which was developed at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I believe that it is now part of the Mozilla open source browser and this is why it is identified as such.

I have also read somewhere that by searching for Mozilla in the registery you can actually change what IE is recognized as. (Win2000 details below)

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Internet Settings

and modify the key 'User Agent' which reads as default (or something similar)..

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Win32)
