View Full Version : Forget gHz... I'm talkin BTU's here!
Folding has one additional "effect"... with four computers running here in this room... I've not had to turn on the furnace yet this winter!
These boxen are probably producing more BTU's here than mHz though... but it keeps the swamp warm
Anybody else heating their room with protein folders? :)
Welcome to the forum gator. yea there are a few of us that don't need the heater. How is it in Florida? I lived there for a long time. Well not gainesville but in south florida and in tallahassee. one more thing, go FSU!!!!!!
The two thunderbirds in my bedroom do a pretty good job of keeping the place warm. If we don't leave the window open it can get too hot to sleep. Granted, I don't exactly live in Siberia, but it can get pretty chilly here.

Well, I am here in Minneapolis, and I appreciate the overclocked computers folding (4). My space heaters!
Actually, our winter has been super mild, mid 40's today!

It has been mild. Only recently starting to get cold, but I found myself outside yesterday and today a few times without a coat on and didn't even mind it too much.
I do not use my boxen as space heaters. They make too much noise and are being kept in the basement. :) All of them combined would probably keep my bedroom warm, even when it's 10 or 20F outside though. Of course there are better ways to keep a bed/bedroom warm. ;)

I'm in Tampa, Florida here.. It was a relatively cool here and the heat was welcome. The rest of the year is a different story. I've got the warmest room in the house with 2 of each in my room: computers, monitors, amplifiers. Gonna add a P1-166@200 for the slow race and a little extra warmth. Fortunately the Athlon isn't in my room otherwise it'd get unbearable in the summertime (AC at 80F).
Go Gators! :p
There is much apprehension in Gainesville, for the "Spurrier" has flown!!
Grossman and Caldwell will be back next fall, but a couple of the star receiver's won't... "Zook" has one hell of a tough act to follow to match Spurrier's legend, UF may need to struggle a bit.
Back on the subject of FOLDING, although it was a struggle, "Mr_B", "theflycore", and "allan stirling" are now officially
GATOR BAIT!
"Tom_Ozahoski" and "mindbender" look out... there's a big lizard creeping up behind ya!

My computer room is always at least a couple of degrees warmer(sometimes a lot more) than the rest of the house already, with the T-bird and P3 rigs running 24/7. Once I get a few more machines Folding 24/7 I think that I'll have to invest in a window ac unit for the computer room so that I don't have to keep the rest of the house like a refrigerator.:D

I live in a studio apartment and in 20 months here have never turned on the heat. The place is so well insulated that all appliances contribute to the point that I use the AC intermittently 24/7/365. Since adding the Athlons, AC use has increased to at least 60% of the day even with snow outside. Thank God the utilities are included in the rent.:)
