Hey guys, I am trying to plan my first build, So far I think I have everything picked out, except for a power supply, maybe I am retarted but I just can't seem to find a balance between inexpensive and cheap. this is what I have so far...
E8400
Asus P5Q pro
Palit 4850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814261026
4 gigs of Mushkin 1066
CD/DVD combo,
all in one card reader
and one sata HDD.
these are the 2 PSU's that I think I need,

I am pretty sure that the corsair is a "better" psu, but I am on a budget so if anyone can recommend a different less expensive PSU I would appericate it, thanks

+1 for the corsair, the PSU is the one place you don't want to skimp on.
This is not a bad deal either, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341010 also is about 55 bux after MIR

Stay far away from Rosewill. I am also not a big fan of OCZ units since some of them are based on the Epsilon platform which is know for it's terrible ripple.

Stick with Corsair.

the 450vx would also work fine for the specs you posted...if your really trying to save on your budget...but the 550 is a solid choice.

+1 for Corsair. also, here's a couple of $80 suggestions:

you've got a lot of options in this area, but try not to skimp on your PSU purchase. like Corsair, both Antec and Seasonic are well known for their quality and workmanship. gl and enjoy your new build :)

IMHO 550W is overkill for your system. For some reason people like to get power supply with huge ratings :). It's more about the brand/quality rather than power rating. I use a 380W Antec on my system with an E6300 and 9600GT (which should consume about as much power as your system), and it's enough for my system. I agree it's on the borderline, though. If you want some peace of mind I recommend 450W. Anything above will be overkill, unless you are planning to go SLI.

How about something like this?

I am using the 380W version of it (same EarthWatt series). Great power supply according to reviews.

Sure, it doesn't look as cool as some other ones... but =P.

Yeah, I have a corsair 650tx and its done me well. Rosewill is garbage, unless its cables. I bought a rosewill cpu cooler for my old amd rig and it sucked. PSU's are the go or no go in your system, do NOT skimp out or it will come back to bite you one way or another. Plus, the corsair has a 5 year warranty. It also has 80+, active pfc, overvoltage protection, auto voltage inputs, and a buttload of amps on whatever 12V rails it has. get the corsair. for your system the 450 would be fine, but the one you want would be good

Antec EA500 is identical with Corsair VX450 (Corsair have a 120 mm fan and better capacitors though).
+1 for Corsair VX450 for his setup.

True, but it's also $70 vs $50 (according to newegg).
