View Full Version : WPCREDIT, it's simply useless

I followed the instructions at Tweak3d.net on how to use WPCREDIT to lower your CPU temp. Well, I followed it to the exact words. It works really really great, FOR IDLE CPU that is. At idle, my CPU temp drops from 35 C to 28 C!!! Which is my motherboard temp. But at full load NOTHING changes. Still top out at 40-41 C. BAH!!

Programs like that are designed to keep the CPU cool when it's idling anyway.

Results like yours are to be expected.

ya, same for me, but still, your cpu temp is lower most of the time unless you are folding, and a lower temp incresses ur cpu life, so why not do it?

Um if you read what it said you'd know that the register hack is for idle temps ONLY. NOT load temps.

Here's a quote from the instruction article from Tweak3d.net

"I regularly experience temperature drops of up to 15C at idle and 7C at average full load"

Average of 7 C drop at full load!! After installed the WPCREDIT, and checked my idle temp at 28 C, a drop from 35 C. My jaws dropped to the floor and I swear I had a woody. But then I launched Prime 95, expecting to see no higher then 35 C. But then it gradually climbed to 40. My woody slowly went limp.

Whoever wrote that was on crack, the reg hack is an idle temps tweak only.

That's what I thought, that these programs are mainly to cool Idle temps only. I never really bother with them. But the Tweak3d.net is a pretty respectible site. Here's that article if you're wondering.

MY FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't read the foot note. At the end of the article. I guess the tweak is still worthwhile after all.

Here's the footnote:

This tweak does not have a noticeable effect on machines while they are ‘crunching’ on programs like Seti@home and Folding@home. These particular programs use the full capabilities of your CPU, thus never giving it a chance to HALT. Do not expect your true 100% usage temperatures to be affected. On the other hand, when you are physically using your computer, these programs generally become idle and your temps will again drop dramatically. Even during heavy gameplay, there are very noticeable differences of up to around 5C (Max Payne – used for testing because I read that it used same engine as 3Dmark2001, thus a very intensive application).
