I just took the cold plate off my DangerDen water block and was surprised to see a piece of paper between the block and cold plate. It was about 1" x 1.5" and took up most of the central area of the plate.

It would seem that paper is a reasonable insulating material, and if so, it would defeat the whole idea of running the water in a spiral out from the hottest point (the center).

It appeared that they might have used the paper to stick the blocks together while they were putting the screws in. Seems like a bad idea to me.

From my understanding, you don't need a coldplate unless you are going to run a TEC, which would be sandwiched between the waterblock and coldplate. I imagine that they put the paper in there to keep the block and coldplate's surfaces from being damaged in shipment.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I guess I should have figured that out. Still, the adhesive paper was really difficult to get off the block and the cold plate. I wish they'd use something else. I still have an impression on the cold plate where the paper was.

Thanks.

i think they put the paper there to protect the block from any scrapes from the coldplate (and the other way around)

Yeah, that is how they are shipped from DD. Consider it packaging and surely don't leave it there.
