Who makes your ti500? Get a crystal orb or an IU cooler

Here's a recent similiar thread:

I have a (dead) Xtasy 6464 Visiontek Ti 500 and I am very unimpressed with the ramsinks. In fact that's how I killed the card I think, replacing them. I still don't know why it is dead because it is visually perfect. I pulled off the Thermaltake ramsinks and put the stockers back on and it's ready to try an RMA.

I had a PNY Verto Ti 500 next-day aired to me and it's ramsinks have double the meat on them.

I don't know if it is related to the extra cooling capability, but I am able to get a stable 10mhz of ramclock more out of the PNY with the exact same airflow over the card and they both have 3.8ns chips.

Related is the contact patch of the Xtasy adhesive, it didn't even come close to covering 50% of the surface area of the chips, it was just an oval blob mark on each chip. Looked like a dab 'n schlap job, very sloppy.

If the RMA is successful it'll go into the P(os)4 at stock timings and be a backup for the PNY, which I like a lot.

I wanted to try a Gainward Ti 550, but as far as I can tell there are none to be had on the planet ATM. I'll live, the GeForce4 is coming :D

If you want to upgrade the Visiontek ramsinks, the Thermaltake ramsinks which come with their DDR cooling kit are about twice as big and they aren't too pricey. If you can spare a couple of slots below it I highly recommend slapping in one of those double 80mm cooling cards blasting right at the GF3. I have a 120mm boxer aimed at a 45deg angle 100mm from the card and I lowered the PNY ramsink temps a full 20c, you know that doesn't hurt! It's just a testing setup ATM, but I'm definitely wind-tunneling this case before I finally button it up and I'm going to make a "dormer" in the acrylic side panel for a 120 to shoot straight at the GF3, even if I do waterblock the GPU.

Its best to use Arctic Alumina adhesive or Arctic Silver adhesive to affix an IU cooler as these coolers have processor retainer mechanisms not push pins.
