Posted here due to the reason for step-up is only a folding issue.

I recently purchased a 8800GT SSC from evga during the labor day sale, as a prior post showed it failed to run the GPU client. Configuration was verified by using another card. (it worked fine) I RMA' the SSC and another arrived and did the same thing....failed to run GPU "unstable machine"

I have decided to give them one last chance, and just do a step up. Here is where you all step in :P

I paid $119 for the 8800GT SSC and I leave it up to you all to decide what card to step up to. The step up I would prefer to average an additional $40 or less.

My suspicion is that the SSC was just too far overclocked for the GPU2 client to work right.

And if I understand how the EVGA step-up works (never used it myself) I would say that the 9800 GT is a good choice. The 8800 GS seems to kick out about the same points as a 9600 GT card. 9800 GT should give you some improvment over that.

The 9800GT is exactly $40 and does sound like a + on the step up. The evga forum actually stated that it might be too far overclocked....well I actually cranked it down alot and it didnt work either. I tried everything under the sun and I finally took a KO on the card.

I think the 9800 GT is a rebadged 8800 GTS. Great card. Almost the same output as the 9800 GTX, about 600 ppd more than the 8800GT with both at max OC on the shaders.
