Yea i oredered a 12x dvd drive and i have a tnt2m64 that has full screen dvd playback. Here is what it says on the box of my video card: 30 fps, direct show, mpeg 1,2 and indeo, directdraw,H/W video scaling, multitap x and y filtering, perpixel clolor keying. Ok and here is how i hocked up my dvd rom drive: ide cabel to my motherboard, sound cabel to my motherboard, and power to my psu. I heard that you have to hook it up to a dvd decoder card because the playback is choppy, i have dma enabled and all. I dont see a connector on my dvdrom drive that would go to a dvd decoder card. Whats wrong with my setup? My sys is in my sig.

It says that my dvd decoder is software, wtf. I have a decoder on my video card so whats going on? All that happenes is that sometimes the movie pauses for like 3 seconds. The dvd and harddrve each have their own ide cabel.

With a software dvd decoder you often need a lot of system resources free- how many apps do you have running in the background or system tray?
Also, a shorter sig may help out a lot.

What Soft decoder are you using ? I'm using PowerDvd 2.5 and have no problems. The Drivers i'm using are NV 23.11.

Im not too sure that DVD playback means DVD decoding - my old TNT2 M64 had DVD playback slapped across it but err well i dunno. is your DVD on a 80-pin UDMA66 cable? (its quite flexible, more pins than the other type). That may make a difference - probably not though...
Or perhaps it needs busmastering for video to be set to on? DVD is a high resolution video feed after all.
Good luck.
I dun like PowerDVD...too many limits involved....i'd rather use InterDVD 2000 or Hollwood Plus or REALmagic <- this is the best for outputting video from PC to TV with a decoder...
be sure to go to run, type in "msconfig" and go to startup tab, and uncheck (that means don't let) the cftmon.exe start when windows start. Then, restart and i think everythin will run just fine...for xp users i dun think u have this problem...oh well who cares...u see that thing (ctfmon.exe) checked...uncheck it and your decoder won't have a problem...

Do you mean 16bit color?
I have my dvd on an old ata33 cabel.
No msconfig in win2k.
