Black Screen???

Ok my father as a simple computer that was build a couple of years ago and today just about 30 mins ago as had this problem that i belive is the video card.

The video card is a Nvidia 6600gt(AGP) the one with the Hellnight on it from Doom3 if it help?

So what happens is while i have not seen it do this but he as twice now and i was wondering if anyone new what it is or might be or even be able to point me into the correct direction?
He is just surfing the web and then he said the mouse did not move then the screen goes black and says there is no signal? I told him to restart it and see if boots up it did. then about 5 mins ago it did it again and now it is off.(but it did boot back up again before shutting down).

1.I thought the card might be going out but i really thought it is either working or it dont?
2.Should i try updating the video card driver?(but why would it take this long atleast 2 yrs to mess up?)

Any other ideals?

Look on the mobo for blown caps, check his temps, and check the power. Blown capacitors can cause all sorts of crazy things. Power is also possible. Run orthos to stress it for a bit, and see if it stays stable. One last thing for now, see if it will do it in safe mode.
