Ok basically I know there is a few different connections to hook up my 360; RCA, component, VGA, HDMI. My question is, if all these connections are available than what is the optimal connection for the best quality sound and picture?

I would assume HDMI, but I know VGA is pretty good for high resolution pictures.

HDMI! I thought VGA is the worst you could pick, DVI is a step up and then there is HDMI

VGA/ single RCA > Component> DVI|HDMI

DVI HDMI are the same except for the audio over HDMI.

What are you guys smoking. VGA over component any day. If only for the fact that VGA Up-Scales any DVD and Component will not. If you have HDMI, that will always be the best hook-up.

You say VGA is better than component, which I agree with. But you say that both are better than HDMI? Could you source that? If we all are wrong then I wish to be corrected. Humble me. ;)

He had the order right. I think he just put the arrows the wrong way by accident.

Anyway my interpretation to video quality mathematically would be RCA<Svideo<component<VGA<DVI=HDMI

DVI and HDMI have the same quality but DVI can not handle audio and or DRM. I also did this for video quality. Personally I run sound straight to my reciever and would prefer a fiber link, or some version of a digital connection (there are a few) to the reciever which uses a different cable anyway you look at it then to the TV.

yeah I've always understood it as HDMI is just DVI with a toss link wrapped into the casing of the chord to have audio on the same cable....basically.

^ Pretty much. There are some fine details between dvi and hdmi but in practicality they are the same. I use hdmi and the optical out on my PS3.
